Hey @wsvguy.bsky.social - Can you point me in the direction of the PM who owns Azure Update Manager? I have some feedback I'd like to discuss, but my org blocks access to MS Store and Feedback Hub :(

Am I the only one who constant mis-reads "winapp" as "winamp" and then spend the next 10 minutes giggling to myself about it really whipping the llama's ass?

Sometimes I wonder if there is any correlation between how big "vibe coding", and AI code generation in general, has gotten vs the population of MBA-type middle managers pushing lines-of-code as a KPI...

Today I was prompted to change my Windows Hello PIN. As part of that reset, there was an option to "Allow letters and symbols to be used". Isn't that just... a password then? Go home Windows, you're drunk.

20+ year sys admin veteran hot take: Cyber security researchers and the papers they release are goddamned exhausting. Or maybe the problem is the media running with the story. Either way, No - your esoteric "breach" that requires pre-existing access to physical gear/cables doesn't worry me

And then there is CS internal teams: Let's light our hair on fire anyhow and spin-out yelling that the sky is falling. I'm rapidly approaching "No, you can't be in cyber sec if you have 0 operational experience and can't use critical thinking skills. No, I don't care that you went to school for it"

I wish there was an option in the Microsoft Policy Analyzer tool that was similar to Cisco's Wireless Config Analyzer or CLI Analyzer that would look at the applied group policies and spit out warnings/errors about best practices/common mistakes. Stuff like "Don't set this because X Y Z unless ABC"

Maybe it does exist and I'm just looking in the wrong places? My org has a ton of GPOs that have existed since the creation of our domain that are likely irrelevant or contradictory to best practices. You know how SysAdmins love to twiddle knobs when they're available...

I do know the Security Baselines are available, but those aren't best practices or known bad config situations

Today's question of the day: Why do vendors think they can just make arbitrary changes to long-ratified standards? Found out today apparently PAN-OS doesn't support more than 30 characters in the CommonName field when it generates CSRs for TLS Inspection. Less than half the allowed standard...

Today, I asked the Government Representative in the Senate of Canada about how the Federal Government will protect the Charter rights of 2SLGBTQI+ Albertans in the face of the Government of Alberta threatening to use the Notwithstanding clause to violate their human rights. #cdnpoli

I think it's ironic/hilarious that OVA/OVF files (ostensibly Open Virtualization Format/Appliance) are, for all intents and purposes, a VMWare only thing. You'd think if it was such an "open" standard not only would others have picked it up, but it wouldn't only support VMWare specific tech (VMDKs)

Not that anyone would actually reply as such, but I know that the spec itself doesn't have any tie to specific formats, but experience says that no one beyond VMWare has any kind of reasonable OVF/OVA support, so vendors tend to package things in a way that make it impossible to use elsewhere

@wsvguy.bsky.social - Hey Jeff, is there any chance of seeing a "Certification Authority" extension for WAC sometime soon-ish? MMC "going away" and pushes to install Tier-0 machines (like CAs) on Server Core make ADCS a bear to manage - The App Compat FOD doesn't include ADCS support

Having spent some time now using GitHub Copilot Agent Mode in VS Code... I sincerely hope this the same toolchain as MSFT are using internally. Or at a bare minimum that they use models other than GPT 4.1. Tonight was brutal!

How do you market a feature like MCP Servers, and Copilot specific instruction files when the LLM will just... ignore them? If it can't/won't remember to reference the instructions on every interaction like it's supposed to, it sure as hell won't remember to use the MCP Servers.

Anyone able to recommend some moderation/muted word feeds that will help me purge my timeline of politics? I'm spending way too much time manually adding words & phrases to my list This anxiety riddled Canadian head-case can't cope with the sheer volume of dumbfuckery going on in the US right now.

@nedpyle.com I was talking to my brother today about dogs and I showed him pictures of Darby, Indy, and Kell - He asked what their breeds were and for the life of me I can't remember! Now I feel like a negligent internet snoot booper! Help please?

"What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?" That just because I work in IT doesn't mean I know how to fix your PC problems. I've been a server/storage/network guy forever - couldn't troubleshoot end-user compute issues if I tried! Much respect to those in customer-facing roles.

"What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?" If you're having an issue with your PC, just rebooting will sometimes fix it

Best thing I ever did on Bluesky so far is add the soon-to-return Commander-in-Cheetos last name to my blocked/muted word list. If only I had an equivalent list for the _rest_ of my existence.

Never mind! Seems to be working now... Must have been a momentary burp - after about 5 mins of loading it 404'd your homepage. Refresh fixed it

No one really follows me, but I'll introduce myself as well (as is the trend right now). I'm Chuck, aka Mnooseman. You can find me various places online doing various things. I'm also a Senior Systems Admin for a utility company around Edmonton AB.

Why do folks seem to love screwing with #GroupPolicy in #ActiveDirectory ? Just because a knob/lever/control exists does NOT mean you should be twiddling it! So many broken environments because people can't leave well enough alone...

Sigh... People who in-place upgrade a Server 2012 VM to 2016 because they don't want to fight with migrating their Enterprise CA are my new mortal enemy...

Does anyone else feel like Elmo fucking up Xitter is the beginning of the end for social media? The whole community is fractured with some on Mastodon, some on Bluesky and some on Threads... Having expand to multiple platforms is kinda painful, truth told

O_O I've finally arrived on Bluesky... It... feels like the bird-app used to when it was "good" and not Musky. I think I might like it here.

You are up to date.
