Autumn 2026 is set to be a quieter season, with a few hotly-anticipated sequels leading the charge. While it might be a good time to get caught up on your backlog, here's a few of the new series I'm excited to watch.

## Kusuriya no Hitorigoto 3rd Season
* Studios: OLM
* Genre: Drama, Historical Fiction
* Why I'm Watching: Political intrigue, historical drama, and one of the best protagonists in anime.
Set in a fictionalized version of Tang-dynasty China, _Kusuriya no Hitorigoto_ follows Maomao, a young apothecary who's kidnapped and sent to work in the imperial court. While she wants to keep a low profile, and eventually return to her quiet life, she finds herself caught up in medical and political scheming, assassination attempts, and growing unease among the court.
_Kusuriya no Hitorigoto_ is simply one of the best series currently running. If you've missed seasons one and two so far, I wouldn't recommend just jumping in, but luckily in a slow season like this there's plenty of time to catch up! You owe it to yourself to see Maomao's deductive reasoning and the political machinations underpinning a compelling drama. Highly recommend!
## Ao no Hako Season 2
* Studios: Electric Circus
* Genre: Romance, Sports
* Why I'm Watching: Strong characters, slow-burn romance, and compelling determination.
Taiki, a member of the boys badminton team develops a crush on Chinatsu, the ace of the girl's basketball team, who's one year his senior. But asking her out seems hard enough as it is, especially once she moves in with Taiki and his family as her own family is going abroad.
I love _Ao no Hako_ ; I fell for the series as hard as Taiki falls for Chinatsu. The characters are written _so well_ , which really holds everything together. Taiki is a classic earnest striver, and Chinatsu always works hard and tries to be true to herself. The setup sounds like something from one of those jokey series' that has a full paragraph for a title, but this is such a genuine, warm series. I'm not usually a big manga reader, but after season one, I couldn't wait, and binged the whole thing. It's worth it.

## Tensei Kizoku, Kantei Skill de Nariagaru 3rd Season
* Studios: GeyeG Pictures
* Genre: Fantasy, Adventure
* Why I'm Watching: Interesting premise, political drama.
Another sequel, but another one I'd argue is worth your time. Ars is a reincarnated noble in a small domain. His father is a skilled military man, but Ars doesn't have much prowess of his own. Thankfully, he has the ability to assess anyone, allowing him to find the most capable people to surround himself with. Before long, his little domain becomes much more central than anticipated...
I'm a sucker for these sorts of kingdom-building series. I think of them as a subgenre to what I call "competence porn," narratives that focus on the skill of the protagonist. Ars might not have many skills of his own, but he becomes more and more capable as he learns from and leans on those around him. I find Ars somewhat endearing, but the stars are his supporters, like his wife, Licia. As the continent becomes more embroiled in war, I'm looking forward to seeing what's on the horizon.
## FX Senshi Kurumi-chan
* Studios: Passione
* Genre: Seinen
* Why I'm Watching: Hilarious premise
Anime is such a wild world. In what other medium are you going to find stories of magical photography clubs and giant fighting robots, alongside slow dramas? Or how about a show about a girl who gets into forex trading?
Kurumi-chan is trying to recoup the 20 million yen debt her mother accrued in risky trading by making some risky trades of her own. The series seems to know how deranged the premise is, and with the rise of Wall Street Bets and widespread gambling in America, simple forex degeneracy seems almost quaint.
I love a good oddball series, and who could say no to this premise?
## Marronnier Oukoku no Shichinin no Kishi
* Studios: J.C. Staff
* Genre: Historical fiction, comedy, josei
* Why I'm Watching: Lighthearted adventuring
The Kingdom of Marronnier sits in the center of a continent of seven other countries. Led by the general Baribara, she sends her peculiar seven sons to the seven neighboring countries as ambassadors.
I'm not at all familiar with the manga this is adapting, but it just seems like a good adventure romp. Seven eccentric knights, seven countries, the only aim adventure; count me in. I'm a big fan of J.C. Staff, and while josei series' are made for women, they've rarely let me down. Adventure awaits!
Happy watching!
