Organized fandoms act as volunteer pinkertons, and while the creeps enforcing fascist visions are in actuality a tiny minority of most fandoms, loving a of particular franchise/character produces a political ambivalence that often leans towards compliance with corporate aims over artistic ones

Nathan Fielder: And do you understand why that's funny? Elizabeth Holmes: The robots were watching a movie and I thought that was funny. Fielder: Do you get that they're making jokes about the movie? Billy Evans (barely listening, watching YouTube at 40x speed): Lizzie I think you have a call.

I got my blood test back and I don't need an MMR titer. I don't remember when I last got a booster but it was during the Obama years if not before. My mom got me vaxxed as a kid, I've had a booster or two, and here we are. Not that difficult.

Russia has already lost their own army multiple times over, had a mutiny by one mercenary army, is renting another mercenary army from North Korea, is shangaiing troops from "guest worker" programs, and is getting arms assistance from Iran. There has never been a worse time to stop fighting them.

marine corps boards crossing out their instructions "expel trans marines" and writing in "we keep this trans marine" is, frankly, a great example of what it means that a society is more than just its government

My HMO invited me to participate in a study of a new flu vaccine made with recombinant DNA instead of being cultured in chicken eggs. I'm happy to be able to pitch in even a little bit in the war against stupidity and superstition.

A Gallows Day would pay multiple benefits: it would, as you mentioned, reestablish the primacy of the state over these corporations, it would show our allies and enemies we're serious, and it would move some truly dangerous people off the playing field.

I'm sure it's good that over the past several days I have seen multiple vibecoding people say their individual versions of "yeah this is like playing a slot machine for me and I find it hard to stop and I love that actually"

That's right, DJT might actually be the only president in American history to allow two pandemics to run roughshod over his subjects.

NEW: A bird flu outbreak has been raging uncontrolled on a Utah mink farm for two months. Flu experts fear it could spark a devastating human pandemic. But officials haven’t acted — instead prioritizing the financial interests of the fur trade.

And the eventual book of incredibly weird but completely real pictures from Donald Trump's political tenure grows by one. That thing is already bigger than Storm of Swords.

Wait. So you’re telling me there are folks out there who enjoyed a bowl or two of decent bud before reading, viewing or (god forbid) *writing* classic sword & sorcery? Why, I don’t believe you!

Mitch McConnell is still too feeble to do things like drive a car, send an email, or feed himself. He must be eased back into daily life by serving as a United States senator.

I (Greek Orthodox on paper) grew up in a place that was so overwhelmingly Catholic that I didn't know quite what Protestants were until I learned about the Reformation in high school, and didn't meet any believers until college. I didn't meet any hardcore evangelicals until I moved to California.
