A sophisticated anatomical study of dopamine neuron projection patterns and their coordination with striatal neuron subtypes and corticostriatal projection patterns. Beautiful work and congrats to @rajawatramani.bsky.social and team!

Reinforcing and disengaging properties of dopamine signaling in the medial accumbens shell transferred to naturalistic consummatory behaviour where high-frequency stimulation supported short bouts of eating that were rapidly reinitiated.

Whereas high-frequency stimulation supported the longest cumulative stimulation time, mice would release the lever more often to disengage stimulation.

This disengaging property of dopamine signaling in the medial accumbens shell was present on the first hold-down of each trial, and mice were quickest to reinitiate high-frequency bouts of stimulation.

A reminder that the Cannabinoid and NeuroImmunology Lab (CANI) at the uOttawa School of Psychology is recruiting now!! Interested in studying how the immune system alters the brain to influence behaviour across a developmental and aging trajectory? Reach out: uniweb.uottawa.ca/edit/profile...

I defended my PhD 10 years ago today. That was the least remarkable thing that happened that day. Sharing something I wrote about it last year. Since then "the horrors persist but so do we." And with dignity.

Since the Namboodiri lab isn’t on Bluesky (I think?), I’d like to amplify this cool paper which I and others in the Janak lab made a small contribution to.
