Our work exploring host-microbial co-metabolism of bile acids in patients with alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) has been published in the JHEP Reports: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... 🪐 A big thank you to everyone involved, to the GALAXY and MicrobLiver consortia who made this possible! 🙌

Why ELPA is going on a unique European Liver Screening Tour ELPA is going on a unique European Liver Screening Tour because Europe can no longer afford to wait for liver disease to become visible only when it is already advanced. For too long, liver disease has remained silent.

🩺 #POSTER SAT-532 by Markus Maagaard et al. evaluated if direct #prothrombin concentration🩸can improve prognostic performance of the #MELD (Model for End-Stage Liver Disease) score in patients with decompensated #cirrhosis (compared to INR, the international normalised ratio). @easlnews.bsky.social

🧬 Their work highlights miR-92a inhibition as a promising therapeutic strategy against #MASLD progression & #PortalHpertension, demonstrating reduced fibrosis, inflammation, hepatocellular injury, and portal pressure in preclinical models. #EASL2026 #LiverDisease #TranslationalResearch

🩺 Mortality prediction using non-invasive fibrosis scores independent of chronic liver disease in patients with COVID-19: #POSTER SAT-515 by Maximilian Joseph Brol et al. 📍Presented at #EASLCongress #EASL2026 #COVID19 #LiverDisease #Fibrosis #Hepatology #ClinicalResearch @medblab.bsky.social

The study found that FIB-4, APRI and NFS were strong independent predictors of mortality, suggesting that these scores may reflect systemic disease severity beyond liver-specific pathology.

☺️ What a refreshingly honest #workshop on Friday eve: 💪 How can we turn setbacks into strengths? Former EASL Secretary General Aleksander Krag spoke with a group of #YoungInvestigators about his own career path that also included failures & setbacks. @easlnews.bsky.social #EASL2026 #EASLCongress

🧪 Minneke Coenraad (LUMC) chaired the last #PosterTour today on "Experimental and Pathophysiology" at the Cirrhosis & Complications Track Hub! 💫 Marie Bobowski-Gerard (GENFIT) did a fantastic job presenting this poster, a collaboration with @medblab.bsky.social: 👉 #Poster FRI-383 #EASLCongress

Congrats to V. Legry et al. on this #ACLF translational advance presented by Cristina López-Vicario at #EASLCongress, #POSTER FRI-412. ASK1 inhibitor SRT-015 reduced IL-6, IL-1β, TNFα & CXCL10 while preserving/enhancing antibacterial #ImmuneFunction, including phagocytosis & macrophage polarisation.

🦠 Incidence, risk factors & outcomes of #cytomegalovirus infection after liver transplantation: #POSTER FRI-474 by Maximilian Joseph Brol et al. investigates the incidence & clinical impact of CMV infection following #LiverTransplantation. 📍Presented at #EASLCongress #EASL2026 @medblab.bsky.social

The study suggests that impaired FoxO1 signalling contributes to endothelial dysfunction in ACLF by reducing angiogenesis and endothelial proliferation, highlighting a potential mechanistic pathway in disease progression.

Manns (1951-2025) dedicated his life to #liverresearch. Led Hannover's gastroenterology clinic for 30 years, pioneered Hep C/D treatments, 1k+ publications, co-chaired the EASL-Lancet Commission. Passed at 73 from cancer.

🌎 Regional variation in #Rifaximin use & #GutMicrobiota composition in European patients with decompensated #cirrhosis: ✨ The outstanding international collaboration & poster SAT-467-YI by Susan Fischer et al. was featured during today's afternoon #PosterTour at Track Hub 6! #EASL2026 #Hepatology

🔬 Can a simple urine #dipstick predict acute decompensation in #cirrhosis? #POSTER THU-436 by Susan Fischer (LUMC) investigated this question: Low #UrinaryChloride (≤38 mmol/L) was independently associated with a significantly higher risk of #AcuteDecompensation within 90 days. @easlnews.bsky.social

👉 The study suggests that HDV promotes hepatocyte survival through suppression of NF-kappaB/AP-1 activity and downregulation of EphA signalling, mechanisms that may contribute to viral persistence and HCC development.

🚨Takeaways included systematic diagnostic workup, early management of triggers, and the complexity of handling #AlcoholWithdrawal in acutely decompensated patients. A strong reminder of the value of multidisciplinary care in improving outcomes for #LiverPatients.

👏 Special honours go to Josune Cabello Calleja for being featured in this afternoon’s #PosterTour on #Cirrhosis & its complications - #ACLF & Critical illness. 👉 SAT-458-YI Beneficial impact of consequent non-selective #BetaBlocker intake on patient outcomes in all stages of chronic #LiverDisease

🩺 TIPS placement was associated with a lower risk of AKI than contrast-enhanced CT imaging in patients with decompensated cirrhosis. #POSTER2 THU-461 by Markus Kimmann et al. 💪 #EASL2026 #AKI #TIPS #Cirrhosis

📈 ReMELD-Na and MELD 3.0 may support risk stratification after TIPS for variceal bleeding, though FIPS showed stronger short-term predictive performance: #POSTER1 THU-460-YI by Markus Kimmann et al. #EASL2026 #TIPS #Cirrhosis
