#OverheardAtLivingstans Ch 1-We got the first Shard straight away! I had to look back at the genealogy to figure out how Character X fit into the story. With his position on Rome, he's very intriguing #Livingstans #BookClub #HistoricalFantasy #FantasyBookClub #ArkAndTheEmpire @michaellivingston.com

I have no regrets.

#OverheardAtLivingstans "I swear I only meant to read the prologue. Thought I was going to see one assassination, might have seen another. Ended up reading the first 100 pages." #Livingstans #BookClub #HistoricalFantasy #FantasyBookClub #ArkAndTheEmpire @michaellivingston.com

Great stuff! And of interest to those doing this month’s @livingstans.com read-along of my novel featuring Selene, Helios, and the gang: THE ARK AND THE EMPIRE

My 1st article for National Geographic is out now. It is on Cleopatra’s & Antony’s surviving children after their parents’ deaths—especially Cleopatra Selene. Thanks to Jane Draycott (and her book, Cleopatra’s Daughter) & @candidamoss.bsky.social for their help. And @bresnick.bsky.social for edits.

This spring I had the chance to go to Normandy and follow in the footsteps of the men who were tasked with opening Dog-1 on Omaha Beach — the landing dramatized in Saving Private Ryan. The truth was far more incredible and moving than a movie ever could be. Out now on History Hit

Nice get to find the original covers! These are now being re-released with new titles, and there’s also a novella out there, too! (The novella is included as an appendix to the new book 1.)

One great @michaellivingston.com book down, and two more eagerly anticipated. The only mistake I made with this series was buying a p/b copy of volume one in case it didn’t grab me. Oh, but it grabbed me! #BookSky

This was a thoroughly enjoyable conversation! Have a listen!

DID YOU KNOW that it's new episode Wednesday??? this week we have the amazing @michaellivingston.com on to talk about what we get wrong about the 100 (200?) Years War and why it's more important to "get it right" than to "be right" Enjoy! #medievalsky podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

That was Félix, which is a great spot for cocktails downtown (and also has a very good burger). Belmont is another great cocktail joint. For wine, go to Vintage. 🍻

@michaellivingston.com listened to your Q&A episode and you and Kelly mentioned a bar in Charleston. My family and I are taking a vacation there in July and my wife and I get a kid free date night. Any suggestions?

An excellent question! Well put it in the hopper for our Q&As! 🏹⚔️

@michaellivingston.com maybe too late for the next Q&A, but are there any specific battles/conflicts that you wish you had more information. For example 7th or 8th century Anglo-Saxon conflicts where the only info is something like "the King of Northumbria was killed"

I’m open to seeing what the full publication presents as evidence, and I’ll be happy to be wrong if the facts dictate it … but what has been put forward so far doesn’t work on some VERY basic levels and is wildly out of touch with the state of the field.

Toby Venables@tobyvenables.bsky.social

@michaellivingston.com I’m sure you’ve seen this but I would love to know your thoughts… theconversation.com/is-the-bigge...

For days I’ve been getting requests for comment about this theory. Like Marc, I’ve been putting them off until I see the details. But I’ll say he does a *great* job laying out some of the most basic problems here. (There are more, as Marc knows, but these already put holes below waterline.)

Historical Fiction is such delightful fun! Cleopatra and Company didn’t do any of the things I had them do in my Shards books … we think. :)

Toby Venables@tobyvenables.bsky.social

PS What I am doing with this research is historical fiction, so where a historian might have to say ‘probably’ I’m like ‘yeah, that’s definitely going in…’
