I need a review of You Can See Everything from someone who has never watched any Fielder shows and knew nothing about the Theranos case. I have not seen a full episode of anything Fielder has done but I did work at a financial news company during the Theranos trial, so...

You Can See Everything was a great film but I am already predicting the tired meta-discourse we're going to get from the Very Online Film Guys in the next week. You should see it yourself! It does a lot to make you think about the nature of documentary and self created mythologies of Silicon Valley.

Don Was and the Pan-Detroit Ensemble performing a few songs and a front-to-back “Detroit-ified” performance of the Dead’s Blues of Allah. Included an Isley Brothers guitar solo over Help on the Way, Music Never Stopped>I Only Have Eyes for You, and an Otis Redding breakdown in Crazy Fingers.

We've been past the point of no return for a while now, Meta's business interests (sell more AI tools, encourage more AI in-app, pay for a blue check and Meta plus subscription) are in direct conflict with its Trust and Safety interests.

Boo!-per Lund@cooperlund.online

This isn’t an AI story, it’s a Trust and Safety story and Meta completely dropped the ball because giving someone the ability to pay for something that denotes trust and status is a Bad Idea.

@mayor.nyc.gov you know what you need to do

Ok maybe, but I checked to see if there were tickets available for Godzilla Minus Zero and amazingly, there were some! As my cursor hovered over the "buy" button I noticed that they were $90 + a $3 convenience fee. I'm not going to even one movie at that price, let alone all of them!

My only contribution to the dumb iced coffee discourse is: what jobs are y'all interviewing for that have in-person interviews?? I have not interviewed in person since 2020.

We've finally reached the point of just reinventing ChaCha from first principles en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ChaCha_...

Scoop: Meta's Muse AI can make phone calls. Internally, Meta has told employees that many of these calls will be made by human beings in a call center: www.404media.co/meta-tests-m...

The two photos in my head every September 11th: "Lover's Lane, New Jersey" - Thomas Hoepker, 1983 “Wheatfield – A Confrontation: Battery Park Landfill, Downtown Manhattan – Blue Sky With World Trade Center” - Agnes Denes, 1982

If you're not tired of brand-produced series interviewing "creatives" showing their "archive" "inspiration" or "reference material", you will be soon.

I once had a rep from Muck Rack, the industry standard in earned media and PR, tell me with a straight face that a piece of content received "over 8 billion views" and when I asked to confirm "are you telling me that basically the entire population of Earth saw this?" they said yes.

Josh Sternberg@joshsternberg.com

The measurement problem/challenge in the digital age continues. A view on platforms is a black box. So when someone touts 3 million views, it means nothing. Except! As a measurement exec told me 15 yrs ago: "A standard is just a lie that an industry agrees to"

What I think people closer to the marketing industry could see very early that is now becoming painfully clear to everyone is that OpenAI and Anthropic are less tech companies than they are PR/comms/lobbying companies that happen to own a tech product. This is classic spin covering a bad product:

Dare Obasanjo@carnage4life.bsky.social

“What we need to explain to the world: Number one, we are close to creating a genie that can grant any wish. Number two, we are going to make sure that our first wishes broadly benefit humanity” - Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI — This is definitely the opposite of Anthropic’s AI kills all jobs pitch.

Why do so many people turn their phone over (face down) when using it to tap-to-pay? Is this just a bizarre side effect of skeuomorphism where people think the card is physically in the screen? Was there some bad tech demo that people got thrown off by?

If Dimes Square was shorthand for the downtown post-ironic horseshoe'd to right wing Substack glitterati, I think we should start using Hudson Square as shorthand for the new wave AI accelerationist Palantir chore coat wearing bag chasers

Was setting up ads directly in Meta Business Manager for the first time in a long while yesterday and holy shit the amount of "AI enhancements" they try and force on to you every step of the way is astounding. Started making a lot more sense why there is such a glut of slop ads on Instagram now.

Trans rights are human rights, political funding should not tip the scales of American democracy, and the constitution says what it says. Other than that, I'd simply remind my friends to not post anything they wouldn't want to see quoted on Fox News tonight. (That's what the group chat is for.)

The new boomerslop trend of using AI to generate anti-AI comics is truly the lowest rung of engagement bait on this or any other social media platform.

Lol would you pay $2.99 per month to... change the font on your Instagram bio?

The only take I have on the Ferrari/Jony Ive EV is that they should have never branded it/badged it as Ferrari and used this opportunity to start an EV sub-brand instead. The car looks _ok_ I guess, but it definitely doesn't "look like a Ferrari."

Extremely sudden loss. Busch won a race just last weekend and I think it was only announced he'd been hospitalized earlier today. His stat line is unrivaled. A helluva driver with an elbows out style. RIP.

Wow - DHS circulated a “Be on the Lookout” alert to national law enforcement for Ben Palmer, the comedian who made that fake ICE tip line. Great work by @aurabogado.bsky.social: www.injusticewatch.org/civil-courts...

For the first time since 2020 I am flying somewhere for a meeting and flying back in the same day. I’ll be on the ground for less than 8 hours. This feels doubly neolithic considering I was on a video conference with the same people for two hours yesterday.
