VOTERS: Can you make voting more simple? STATE OF CALIFORNIA: Here’s a 8 page ballot with nearly 20 propositions and initiatives to vote on, hope you have multiple hours to do research

My partner and I recently started watching “Dexter” after years of hearing how good it is. Four episodes in, and…please tell me it gets better. It feels like a third-rate CBS police procedural with some blood haphazardly sprayed on. Cardboard characters with no depth, dialogue that aims for nothing

Anyway, someone tell me this gets more compelling. Otherwise I may keep obsessing over the fact that Dexter’s police blood lab is apparently just a normal desk in the homicide briefing room. I guess there was room, considering Miami PD apparently only hired 8 people for that whole department.

I mean, there was a scene where Dexter was doing blood testing on an amputated foot, on his generic cop desk in the middle of this open-plan office, and I literally laughed at the absurdity. Gotta keep the characters close, so I learn that Cuban Detective Guy bought jewelry for his wife!

Why am I posing about a 20 year old tv show? I dunno, other than putting this in the same “peak tv” bucket as The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad or even Six Feet Under feels like a big joke. And it was apparently popular enough for them to keep bringing Dexter back in newer series.

I love seeing these remnants of contractor history when walking around my Oakland neighborhood. I may not know who is #1 on the Billboard charts these days, but I’m damn sure that Concrete Master Ed Doty poured my sidewalk in the 1930s.

Anyone with a half-decent modern laptop has the capability to write, arrange, record, and master music to a level that would have been impossible in a 90s professional recording studio. Back in 1996 I spent over $300 for 8mb of RAM for my sampler. Today I can get a 128gb thumb drive for $27.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Modern music producers have the advantage of nearly infinite storage — no one these days is scrambling around their studios searching for a floppy disc that isn’t already full… …and god help you if you don’t find one, otherwise you’ll lose everything when the gear gets turned off.

Modern music producers don’t know the gamble of buying a $100 sample CD without knowing if any of the sounds were actually good. No Splice in those days, no online previews or YouTube videos to guide your decision. You sent your money (by mail!) to the sound library company and hoped for the best.

World Series Game 1 live reaction: The Tampa Bay logo looks like it was commissioned from a local community college in 2002. Just dire. Meanwhile, Milwaukee comes correct with great colors and a clever, timeless logo. Conclusion: Go Brewers!

BREAKING: Local child finally realizes that the Tooth Fairy isn’t real

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Michael Fusella supported President Trump for nearly a decade. But as the Iran war drags on and the cost of living continues to climb, the 21-year-old Republican said he feels betrayed by a president who said he’d end overseas conflicts and lower prices.

It’s hard to really imagine 50 million of ANYTHING, and my brain kind of fizzes out trying to apply that number to music tracks that likely didn’t exist before 2024. And then…these are only the slop tracks Spotify FOUND. I’m sure there are more.

I know it’s been said by people more eloquent than me, but it’s absolutely bonkers that—in a time when people can’t afford food or fuel or health care—this man is prioritizing a fucking golf course.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "You have a golf course right now -- it's old, tired, beaten up, it's useless. It doesn't do much business. We want to do something great for Washington. We're going to basically build a better golf course. It's going to be one of the great courses."

In other news, just found out that the cost of my health insurance, which I pay for because I’m self-employed and don’t qualify for subsidies, is increasing by 19% for 2027. But at least Donald Trump can sleep soundly knowing there’s not a sub-standard golf course within a 5 mile radius.

Celebrating the cartwheeling Tesla Roadster by buying tickets to see “Musk” tomorrow…let’s see how my opinion of him survives 4 hours in a movie theater seat!

Ok…here’s my short review of MUSK: overall, its good. I recommend it. Even though it’s 4 hours long, it doesn’t seem to drag. So, short review out of the way, here are some more specific thoughts:

Even at 4 hours, some parts seemed to go TOO quickly. Fact is, Elon is such a complicated character, and is attached to so many themes of importance, trying to fit it all in one documentary is difficult. DOGE alone could be a multi-hour expose. Same with Twitter, Tesla, politics, etc

Standing one’s ground and confronting issues and people like this head-on is what gets people fired up to support a candidate, not some “strongly worded letter” bullshit. Call them out and make them look like the fools they are.

since California ballots are now out: prop 40 is the billionaire tax, and you should vote yes to stick it to them but both props 41 and 42 are designed to retroactively cancel the billionaire tax because they’re afraid they can’t beat it at the ballot box yes on 40, no on 41 and 42

The tricks and speed are impressive, but this thing will have an attrition rate that will rival the experimental Nazi planes of WW2 Oh. Wait. Maybe that’s the point?

Absolute dictator shit. The Dems need to show real solidarity and fight this with everything they have. If the administration succeeds in getting rid of her, she won’t be the only one.

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

Hard not to notice that Democrats who are doing the best are the ones who are leaving this whole civility-and-norms, we-go-high, we-need-a-strong-Republican-Party bullshit behind and are simply giving Republicans exactly what they all ought to get at all times, which is undisguised contempt.

There’s a great Stephen King short story called “Survivor Type” where the protagonist needs to resort to self-cannibalism after surviving a shipwreck. I think about this every time I see a job about reviewing and training AI to be a better designer.

“how do we win back trump voters in 2026” we don’t. we create an environment where admitting to voting for trump is so socially embarrassing as to render them completely inert. you don’t “win back” trump voters. you demoralize them into staying home. you make it a dunce cap
