I was thrilled to chat with @bjcolangelo.bsky.social for this special @fangoria.bsky.social piece all about how the Chainsaw Awards come together, what it takes to build a show that's a little "weird," and why it ultimately feels like one big horror summer camp. Give it a read!

For the past five years, Michael Varrati has written, directed, and produced the FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards. Today, he explains how the hell he makes it happen.

Enormous ups to inimitable writer/director Michael Varrati, who moves mountains to bring us the Chainsaw Awards every year. It's an unruly project, but he rules, so it evens out. And to @brendohales.bsky.social for the most awesomely autumnal production design! Prettiest awards show, hands down 🎃🍂

During my tenure on the #ChainsawAwards, I’ve always ended each show by having the host say “Stay Scared“ as an homage to the legendary George A. Romero‘s signature quote, both as a tip of the hat to a foundational master, as well as my roots in Pittsburgh. Thanks for watching. Stay Scared.

Throwback thread. I'd also toss in the Lisa Gerrard side of Dead Can Dance.

I'm starting a playlist called Ethereal Girlies (Julee Cruise, Laufey, Kate Bush, Björk, Weyes Blood, Nico, Cate Le Bon, Happy Rhodes, Joni Mitchell, etc) because it's my abso fave vibe to edit to. Taking recommendations of any ethereal girlies you dig, pls and thx!

Joining the chorus of folks saying THE CYCLE is a perfect Halloween movie! Great crime-turned-horror narrative and fantastic 80's style practical effects. Lucky enough to catch it on the big screen in Astoria last night!

Love to Tony and family 🩵

This week we’re mourning one of our own, as Fango contributor and family member Marguerite Timpone has passed away. Marguerite was a kind and bright soul, and she was immensely proud of her work in the magazine over the years. My thoughts are with her beloved husband Tony and their family members.

Happy Chainsaw Awards Day! I woke up way too early but so far my attempts to go back to sleep have failed. This tends to happen every year, the bolting awake with excitement. So many people work so hard to make this thing exist and I hope you all enjoy this massive labor of love. 💚

Sometimes a non-horror movie features incredibly scary moments that catch the audience off guard. Here's five of the most terrifying that we can't stop thinking about after all these years.

Not only did I speak with the incomparable Mr. Lobo for @fangoria.bsky.social’s latest print edition, but I had this additional conversation with him, exclusive to the site, all about what it means to take on the identity of a horror host. Check it out!!!

Perhaps the most recovering unpopular kid thing about me is that any time I see someone’s close friends stories on Insta, I feel a lil thrill. “Close friends? Meeee? 🥰”

Smallville turns 25 today. I’m celebrating with an exhibit of one of my favorite things they did on the show: Clark reads a book to understand more about the A-plot of the episode. So guileless!

This is, at best, hopelessly naive. At worst, it's willfully negligent. These pledges are toothless and vague, especially in light of reports that publishers are using AI regardless of what authors - and even their own employees - want.

wired.comBook Publishers Are Quietly Using More AI. Staff Are RevoltingWorkers at three major publishing houses tell WIRED that LLMs are being used for publicity, cover art, back cover copy, and emails, as some execs push junior staff to champion the tech.

Who needs feature pitches on VisionQuest? I'm looking to expand my outlets in the coming months, and this feels like the perfect way to show my chops. I'm an expert on the MCU (like, actually, professionally) and I'm your girl for anything even adjacent to Wanda Maximoff. Let's chat!
