I am so excited and amazed that today is publication day for NIGHTFARING in the US & Canada! 📚🙏 It is available anywhere you buy books! I hope you enjoy journeying through the dark with me, and feel inspired to spend more time under the stars. 🌌✨

The thing about having been through a severe cardiac event is that, even if you fully recover, you never fully recover, and you must accept that activities easy/fine for others are not your baseline. You must prioritise your heart even when it makes you look dramatic or people might call you lazy.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere* Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines As a species we decided, “we will survive” Let’s do that some more

The thing I could never get used to about the Tropics is how the days and nights are both basically 12 hours long, all year round. I have gotten very attached to the UK's wild high-latitude swings from languid summer days to cosy winter nights.

I will never understand why KLM has such a horrendous website experience and yet maintains literally the best mobile app of any commercial airline.

I hope everyone understands that kings being protested cannot just be politicians, it is the billionaire class needs bringing down.

Mark Zuckerberg has suspended the No Kings Instagram account in midst of Day of Action. Billionaires want you under their boot heels ... or worse.

NIGHTFARING comes out in paperback on 28 Jan 2027 and has a lovely, slightly refreshed cover complete with amazing reviews and a new subtitle.

Hope to see many of you there on Friday for the Dark and Quiet Skies meeting.

This Friday we'll be hosting our first Specialist Discussion Meetings of the 2026/27 season... 🎉 One will look at what can be done to address the threat to astronomy posed by more satellite constellations, while the other will explore how solar wind controls Earth's radiation belt dynamics.

If you've never been inside the RAS, it is worth going to have a nose around today. Burlington House is 362 years old and has some wonderful nooks and crannies – the RAS library is particularly fantastic. And while you're there, you can also walk into the Royal Academy next door for some free art!

Just a reminder that I coined the term 'starwashing' and actually coined it well earlier than 2025 but it was on Twitter, now the posts are long-gone. Someone else is claiming to have coined this term this year, and I want it noted for the record that I made up this terribly derivative portmanteau😂

It upsets me deeply when I see a travel business or tourism board trying to capitalise on their stargazing opportunities while doing NOTHING to actually install protections against light pollution. I coined a term for this: "starwashing" - a cousin of greenwashing.

Happy publication day morning to me!! Dear friend @chrislintott.bsky.social said on record that it was "Truly unique! Sparkling with charm and interest & uncompromisingly clear". In person he said "I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but it was surprisingly good" 🥳 Major compliment! 🤗🧪

Since its foundation in 1824 the bravery of Royal National Lifeboat Institution volunteers has saved more than 146,700 lives at sea. Hundreds of those volunteers have died attempting to save others. They are the best of us.

Every time I book with KLM, the pre-flight experience is worse than the last. Their website is almost unusable at this point. Either it won't log you in or doesn't send you a code in time or won't recognise a PNR to add your booking or it just stares blankly back at you when you try to do ANYTHING

During a phone appointment with my cardiologist yesterday, I mentioned I try to do strength training because I'm middle aged and that's when bone loss starts in women. He openly scoffed and said, "You're not middle aged." I'm 45. Sir, I AM. But thank you. 😂
