“…This will also ensure that the journal can return to using footnotes rather than ones confined to the end of the article.” Talk about burying the lede!

This is such a worthy initiative from @mediumaevum.bsky.social and, in these difficult times for the Humanities, a most necessary one.

Hey look it’s me! Thanks so much to SSMLL & Cardiff for this amazing conference — just a ton of really good thoughtful research and impeccable vibes
We have now had time to digest all of the excellent papers (and Welsh cakes) presented at the SSMLL Annual Conference 2026: Medieval Wales. Special thanks are due to the School of Welsh and Centre of Medieval Studies at Cardiff University for their invaluable support of medieval Welsh research.
Thank you to everyone who attended Medieval Wales! Pictured below are Medium Aevum's Managing Editor @drdavidrundle.bsky.social, organisers Dr Rebecca Thomas and Dr David Callander, MAE Annual Lecturer 2026 @profhelenfulton.bsky.social and Henry Loyn Memorial Lecturer 2026, Professor John Hines.

A fun weekend with some excellent papers (though I may now be an appreciable percentage of Welsh Cake).
It is a beautiful day in Cardiff for the start of the SSMLL Annual Conference 2026: Medieval Wales! What better way to start the day than with Welsh cakes and our first paper of the conference by Thomas Clancy, 'What's the commotion? Sound, structure and sense in Ystoria Gereint uab Erbin'
It is now time for the Medium Aevum Annual Lecture for 2026, 'Political Poetry in the Wars of the Roses: Constructing Marcher Lordship in Welsh, English, and French', delivered by @profhelenfulton.bsky.social
Session 1 featured three further fantastic papers from Natalia Petrovskaia, @ascolotl.bsky.social, and Jessica Shales. After a break for a convivial lunch (with more Welsh cakes) we return for Session 2.
