As a medical editor, language - usage - lexicography - culture - memes - all meet someplace. And that place appears to be my desk.

“We live for the exchange of energy between brands and audiences, you should too, and we’ve made it our mission to expand every brand’s market share and heart share.” Heartshare. <puke>

This dude has been the stock image of thousands of finance articles about the stock market. The dude should have been a billionaire by now except Getty owns it. More importantly, using it again is beyond lazy. Anyone recycling this should be sacked on the spot.

Somebody pitched the idea of turning the Stanford Prison Experiment into a reality TV show and Netflix greenlighted it. Filed under “Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.”

Pursuant to a project I’m working on, I’ve started replying to scam texts with “I’m sorry. I dialed your number by accident.” Because that’s the next box on the conversation flowchart they’re following. Really messes them up.

Finally! Wall damage patched. Almost ready to paint. Lessons learned: Get the right tools and materials. Don’t try to jerry-rig some bogus scheme that won’t work (like I did).

Following a home construction project, I now need to patch some drywall and paint over it. Turned out to be a larger task than I’d imagined.

I’ve been seeing this image a lot in digital chaff ads so I was curious. It’s AI; a lure to make you click, but the product isn’t there. A lie that breaks a promise. The destination is a long list of women’s skincare products.

Edit note: “For many municipalities, getting rid of useful changes proves far easier than simply implementing them in the first place.” Something is gang aft a-gleying here. The words ‘easier’ and ‘simply’ are in conflict. Consider replacing simply with “the effort of” or deleting it. #amediting

A bit of trouble, but here it is — the portrait of Vivian Usher (forger, adulteress, murderer, from the movie set artwork created by Burt Shonberg. Paint on canvas:

Ohfergawdsake: “President Trump, a consummate showman, has authorized the country’s first public execution in 90 years.” Have we seen a speck of evidence that he is a “showman”? Every spectacle he has attempted to create has been a shocking embarrassment and failure. Like this horror.

Zuckerberg’s Meta Glasses were quickly dubbed “Pervert Specs.” Every language user gets one vote, and in democratic fashion the majority vote wins. But The Thing is stupid, and it thinks it can change the names of things at its idle whim. Today he realized that it doesn’t work like that.

A base simpleton would acknowledge this fact and move on. But not Golf Geezer! Faced with this reality, he’s trying to see whether he has the power to force compliance. Will you bend the knee? (Team “Fuck No!”)

“Getting frustrated with your husband for taking too long to do something you asked him to highly relatable. At worst it typically causes an argument.” First, let’s kill all the editors.

The Fall of the House of Usher is arguably the best Vincent Price Poe adaptation. The creepy ancestral portraits by Burt Shonberg add atmosphere. Like this one of Vivian Usher, the infamous blackmailer.

Update: I've ordered this as an oil painting. It's going on the wall next to my Poe shrine. Pics to follow. Not sure how I'm going to mount it yet. Dry mount on posterboard will likely work. Vivian Usher, blackmailer, adulteress, murderer. Died in an insane asylum.

Etymology note: The word pale in the phrase “beyond the pale” has an archaic meaning of a spiked fence around a camp. Thus if something is beyond the pale, it’s out of bounds.

You’ve seen this type of ad before. They all share a common property: Whatever is shown in the photo will not appear at the link, which will be mostly women’s skincare products.

The Meridian Project seems to be AI military robots. The 3-member board the Thing announced is: Elon (robotics, AI) Palmer Luckey (tech, weapons) and… Newt Gingrich (TK)

Usage note: Ran across this today: [That’s because while many folks use “peruse” as a synonym for “to skim,” it means the exact opposite.] This is how people get led astray by “experts” who are all too willing to parrot nonsense. Peruse is a contronym (Janus word) like sanction or cleave.

What’s happening is that the people in charge don’t work. For them, government work is collecting money and benefits. If they need to do something, they turn to the intern and yell, “Use ChatGPT! Do it! Hurry!” That’s exactly what we’re seeing.
