👋 I'm Magdalena. 🔥 I've started pottery as a hobby a couple years back and I want to make it my life ;) ✈️ I've recently moved from the USA to Portugal and I'm slowly figuring out how to live here. 🛍️ https://mb-pottery.com 🗺️ Aveiro, Portugal

#throwback This summer I tried raku for the first time, which is a very hot and violent firing process! 🔥🔥🔥 I attended a two-part workshop led by Portuguese artists Maria João Cravo (hand building class) and Yola Vale (raku glazing and firing). They are great! #pottery

My most recent favorite coffee cup ♥️ I miss it so much as it sits in a storage container waiting on me to be done with travels and to complete my move to Europe. #handmade #pottery

One of the last items I made before closing my studio. It's the biggest thing I made, it covered the whole 12in bat and I had to fire it directly on the bottom bricks in my kiln. I was pretty lucky that it fit in, as I didn't measure the kiln beforehand and I forgot the thermocouple sticks out 🤦‍♀️

It's handbuilt (not thrown on a wheel) from speckled Laguna B-mix clay that was sitting abandoned in my studio for 2 years. I think this clay was a really good match for this project :) #handmade #pottery

These are the screen grabs of probably the last newsletter email I've sent for a long while. I'm moving across the ocean and I have no idea if and when I'll be able to re-establish a pottery studio. mb-pottery.com #pottery #handmade #sale #lastchance

In the meantime, I will practice lower effort art forms, like drawing (just notebook and a pencil, no mud melting devices). I'm just unsure if I should post my future bad art trials on the pottery account. What do you think?

I'm moving - please take ceramics off of my shelves! As I'm moving across the pond, I'll be closing my store indefinitely. I have no idea when I'll be able to re-establish a pottery studio. mb-pottery.com/collections/... #handmade #pottery #sale

1/ Hand-building and glaze-making 2-in-1. These two were waiting for glazing for months. I was really afraid of ruining the forms with some random glazes, and so we waited. #pottery #handbuilding #glazemaking #potteryglaze

2/ I decided to wait until I encounter a glaze that I like AND that I tested on some bud vases (to have basic understanding of how it might behave). I like the outcome! And I'm so glad I was able to unstuck myself over artistic fears :)

I carved this sea urchin- inspired piece the other day. (Not sure why I can’t post the video) Excited to get it out of the bisque so I can glaze. I’m thinking red iron oxide on the outside, and a blue glaze inside 🪼 #pottery #art #carving #seaurchin #bowl

Rustic, handmade & wildly colourful. Rainbow lorikeets in brushstrokes — on platters + a serving bowl that feels like summer. Made with love in Australia. 🌈🖐️✨ Which bird should land next? #Ceramics #Handmade #RainbowLorikeet #Pottery #ArtForTheTable #BlueSkyCeramics #BirdArt #RusticVibes #SlowMade

I'll have a couple unique doodle mugs in the next store update. They turn out really cute but recently I'm more in the mood for glaze experimentation. I think I'm kind of winding down mug making for the year and getting "back to basics" - practice & experiment. #pottery #handmade

A cute transparent green and a less cute transparent green: V.C. Transparent Green 3 and Steve's Gloss Green - both page 108 from Britt's △6 book. I like tile #614 the most where the bubbles in the glaze are locked in and cast shadows. #pottery #potteryglaze #britt6

I keep playing with the Robin's Egg glaze. Here is a comparison: - by itself - under a clear gloss - on top of clear gloss #pottery #potteryglaze #britt6

Robin's Egg - Britt's △6 book p/108 This is my bestest discovery in Britt's book so far! It motivates me to make some more bud vases, as it's definitely not food safe 🥲 glazy.org/materials/59... #potteryglaze #britt6

Phase separation study I thought I needed titanium dioxide (or rutile) to get a variegated glaze look. Not really! TiO2 facilitates phase separation but it's not strictly necessary. Details in the thread. #pottery #potteryglaze

With little alumina and lots of silica, the glaze becomes opaque white (no color response) and it's very fluid. As more alumina is added, we see stronger color response (the tiles become light blue), less fluidity, and more transparency (no phase separation).

Nice phase separation (variegated glaze with white streaks in transparent glaze) happened around tile #562. In the future I'd like to "zoom in" around that tile and create glazes between #562 and #566 or #562 and #563. Interestingly, bottom left glaze shows some opalescence.

This is a classic silica vs alumina grid: up = more alumina, right = more silica. Other glaze ingredients don't change, including a little bit of blue mason stain to show color response. This recipe has no TiO2 or other classic opacifiers, yet gets pretty opaque as more silica is added.

Long time no see 👋 I'm thinking about a store update in August but who knows. I'm taking things easy. I'd rather go too slow than burnout! 🤞 #pottery #handmade

John's Jade I - Britt's △6 book p/108 Interesting surface with a mix of glossy and matte (slow cooled) which shifts the color toward turquoise. I wouldn't use it on functional pieces due to: high R2O:RO ratio, high copper content, crazing. Details: glazy.org/recipes/592947 #potteryglaze #britt6
