New paper! Despite qualitative researchers claiming that generalizability is not a goal, their published work does indeed contain generalizable claims. We document this and provide recommendations for how all researchers can better calibrate their generalizability claims. doi.org/10.1177/2515...

I am sad to share that Project Implicit, my first non-profit and foundation of my career, is closing. The IAT website will continue, managed by the next generation of leaders in implicit bias research. Here's the statement I posted to LinkedIn. It didn't vibe right as a bsky thread.

I made a mistake. And because of that mistake, I no longer have confidence that results that I reported in several research papers are an accurate reflection of replication rates. 1/

Prior research has cast doubt on the validity of implicit measures, finding small correlations amongst indirect measures of racial bias. However, these measures vary systematically on key procedural aspects. 🧵👇 Open thread below:

Minimize survival bias, you must.

Just read this: "Respondents aged 70+ were excluded to minimise survival bias, following Yoda (2018)." Always remember to screen your data for 900 year old outliers.

What happens when researchers coordinate instead of compete? Our recent Nature World View article reflects on the experience of the Netherlands Metascience Coalition and what it might mean for the way we organize research. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Are there any other words for marginal effects I could use for a psychological audience? We keep getting pushback about the term (despite explaining what we mean by marginal effects) and it's becoming extremely annoying.

✨New paper out @nature.com ✨ For 8 weeks around the 2024 US election, we randomly assigned 2,000 people to use social media algos we built ourselves. Do engagement-based algorithms amplify intergroup, moral & emotional (IME) content—and does that distort how we see political norms? 🧵🔗 👇

Do waitresses receive the same occupational prestige as waiters? Using German gendered occupational titles, we find that feminine job titles receive slightly lower prestige than masculine ones, especially among male-domindated occupations. Out now in Social Forces. doi.org/10.1093/sf/s...

We welcome theoretical or conceptual work, empirical studies of both geographical and experimental/quasi-experimental nature, perspective pieces that reflect on the model, meta-scientific work that critically examines the Bias of Crowds literature and methodological articles!

Pretty map crew assemble! (And please don't forget that many of these concerns also apply to regional psychology).
