Today is Intersex Awareness day. That's why we signed this Open letter calling the government to act and better support our intersex communities.

Mitch Travis@profmitchtravis.bsky.social

Today is Intersex Awareness Day. 30 years after the first protests members of the UK intersex communities have come together to write this important open letter to the UK government: openletter.earth/open-letter-... Please do read, sign and share widely.

I shared a video introducing myself as a non-binary person on a feminist panel recently and have received hate posts reading almost exactly like this every day since. Hate mongering harms everyone who doesn't conform to a narrow set of norms, whether we're considered "elite" (thanks) or otherwise. 🧐

Rob Mullins@robertmullins.bsky.social

Richard Dawkins is fighting elitism (TM). So is Julie Bindel.

The notion that academics working in gender studies (more expert than elite) should have absolutely nothing to say or do with women's liberation is unhelpful and, somewhat ironically, the kind of free speech suppression that these social media commentators seem to despise when it's the "wrong" kind.

Cofnas is not a legitimate researcher, but a far-right white supremacist cosplaying as a "race scientist". His attempts to re-fortify debunked supremacist ideas from the 1930s speak to how disgusting this invitation is. I am sure Oxford will, as it often does, make its view plain.

Oxford Clarion@oxfordclarion.bsky.social

The Oxford student branch of Reform UK has invited self-styled “race realist” Nathan Cofnas to speak. Cofnas, whose Substack was linked to the hounding of Jason Arday, said he aims to be “head of eugenics and race science at Harvard”. He was dismissed from Emmanuel (Cantab) and suspended by Ghent.

Today's decision by Labour to approve new drilling in the North Sea is climate vandalism. It's a betrayal of all of our futures, and Labour has abandoned all credibility in the fight against climate change. This is a victory for Shell over the people. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cw...

Joy and rage are powerful, motivating emotions that will continue to inspire trans+ defiance towards and resistance against unjust laws and policies until such a time as they are repealed.

What happens when a court ruling suddenly throws your life into turmoil? My new paper explores how trans+ people dealt with the aftermath of the FWS judgement, the EHRC's response, and political antagonism, showing they remained defiant, finding space for joy alongside fear and rage. bit.ly/4jhvf96

All right, but apart from safer streets, cleaner air, and better business, what has low traffic ever done for us?

Oxford Clarion@oxfordclarion.bsky.social

A report on 5 years of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods in East Oxford shows that they have reduced road casualties by over 100. The report by the Coalition for Healthy Streets and Active Travel (CoHSAT) also points to the health benefits of reduced air pollution and performance of Cowley Road shops.

Political leadership has been tragically absent during this sustained campaign against trans rights that led to the new EHRC guidance. I'm proud that the motion proposed by Max at Oxford City Council passed, and there is much more to do.

Green councillor Max Morris proposed the motion and described "unacceptable levels of abuse on social media" for representatives who had previously put forward a proposal... They said that experience is "something that many of us are all too familiar with" www.thisisoxfordshire.co.uk/news/2661155...

It was a pleasure to chair and organise. So many different stories from people, some I never would have believed. It just shows that we have to support each other and refuse to give up the space and the rage required to fix our broken health system.

What a fantastic event! Thank you to our speakers, Naabil and Max, and thank you to everyone who shared their experience of discrimination in healthcare 💚 We will continue to rage against the harms of the system, learn from each other, and work together to make change.

Cowley Road's street art has had a glow-up. Local artist Mani has repainted the mural on Stockmore Street with a giant purple ox - or is it a cow? - proclaiming 'Welcome to Cowley Road'. Next to it are words from songs in the many languages of musical collective Starling Sessions.
