every time i see a genAI comic (especially a ragebait one) i have to laugh because they all have the same three art styles, no one is credited with making them, and no one will remember who made them. they always say artists will become unemployed, but no one knows one of these dipshits from another

i think it's interesting seeing indie devs that vibe code talk about how genAI art/music is obviously bad, but Claude/whatever is fine if you know what you're doing. Okay, then hire an artist, since you made that distinction clear. Oh what? You're just going to AI generate the art anyway? Okay. Okay

Oh my Hanna Barbera era skeet thread got shared on Reddit. Over 300 upvotes so that was nice. A couple of people thought I was glazing HB though which I wasn’t. Just saying their principles make a lot of sense and I’ve been very consistently in favor of small team/solo productions for many years now

It kind of drives me crazy that a lot of top end studios and creatives have thrown so much money at YouTube without ever figuring out how to make it actually work. It’s a fucking kamikaze approach.

I’m flailing like crazy without much of a plan but it’s because I am living rent check to rent check… I can’t even DO merch. I reached out to Makeship once and they said “you’re too small”. Which, I mean, I am. But it’s a bit chicken and egg, isn’t it. Without any profit I can’t invest back in.

Anyone remember Frederators video podcast? They were putting that out on iTunes every week before YouTube became super ubiquitous, and then kept it up on YT showing various animated shorts. This was before 405736 Cartoon Facts took off and they pivoted

I was brought into the MCN with the promise that Frederator would work with me to grow my channel significantly. They even said I’d be in a special initiative program with other top creators. Two guesses as to whether those things ever happened! Frederator sure benefitted from the volume though!

When I was part of Frederator’s MCN I was very confused as to why they were spending millions of dollars to make Bravest Warriors as a TV production for YouTube. It made zero sense, as YouTube revenue in its prime could never pay back the (assumed) $300k BW was costing per episode.

That money could have gone to fund all of the animators they were recruiting for their MCN, to help them live full time and make their own art that would get first run exclusivity on Cartoon Hangover. And showcasing varied web creators was what Frederator built their online presence from!

was it really 5 months between episode releases? ugh. sorry everyone. 5 episodes in one year was not really the plan but that's why i want to hanna barberify my process on other cartoons, to see if i can't get more episodes out

it is deeply odd for a studio to commit to their own vision of what something like Castlevania COULD be, a new path forward instead of nostalgia bait, while still having plenty of nods to past games, only for their reward to be insufferable discourse online about what a "real" Castlevania is

of course Konami's already used to this with their modern Silent Hill push. but that push should also have clued people in to the fact that new entries from their game series are going to try new things! those are such easy dots to connect...

That type of trailer usually only happens with the C or D tier animated films that you usually see Vivo International distribute. Makes me think Hexed had all potential charm or fun focus tested out of it.

V/H/S Mixtape is easily the worst V/H/S by a longshot, and dating back to VHS 85, it's been a dying franchise for a while. This one puts the nails in the coffin. It's not funny, it's not scary, it's largely not even found footage. It's just a bunch of SNL comedy prompts with All That execution.

there is a tiny audio bug in the Divinum review where my voice cuts out but it's only for a couple of seconds. as usual this didn't show up in Resolve, just after the render. i'm glad the free version of Resolve works as well as it does, but the glitches it produces means I'll never go paid version.

Alright, review'em'up #3 is uploaded to youtube and goes live at 11am central. if there's any mistakes in there, who knows. i didn't doublecheck the render. all i care about is it's out and therefore out of my mind. i'm free of one more thing

this doesn't mean i don't care about the viewer experience. but this one i wrote the script like in mid-september. it shoulda been out a while ago!! i'm just glad it's done.

out of the biggest funk i've had in a while i've finally scraped and clawed my way to the end of production on two things. tonight i'll be finishing Review'em'up #3 (to air tomorrow), and tomorrow I should be finishing Bonus Stage Remastered #5 (to air next week).

i also always wonder if people like all the cuts, lining specific things up with specific words in the script, or if people would prefer to see more unedited gameplay, just seeing how the game plays in real time. i also could do more videos that are just my thoughts on a topic set to indie gameplay.

i think my mistake is i set my standards to that of channels that have tons of subscribers and that have part/full-time editors on staff. instead of other single-staff youtube channels. i'm really good at putting the cart before the horse

i've been through a LOT the last couple of months but I'm finally going to be on the other side of it all. that doesn't mean suddenly my output is going to pop off, but I am going to be more in the spirit to make things the rest of the year. finances are the last real barrier, but when aren't they?

i think the multi-game video format works, but I'll have to decide if the way I've been doing it, which is making a ton of cuts to b-roll and self-recorded footage, is too inefficient and taking time away from covering more titles. with my ADHD, sometimes i get 6-7 hours of work done, sometimes... 2
