Not only an incredible talent, but a rare talent who also thought it was funny to just voice random memes every once in a while

Unbelievable loss. An amazing talent, and just a really, really good person. www.instagram.com/p/De8RFy4pyov/

holy smokes, conan strikes up a chat with a random lady on the subway and she immediately starts riffing on his level, no problem.

Man, obviously I'm not in Michigan and maybe AES and I might have different policy preferences on, like, the right marginal tax rate but damn is it hard not to like the guy and the way he wraps himself in the Constitution, in our best traditions here is how all of our politicians should sound.

This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

putting it on my resume that i can produce much more statistically random numbers off the cuff than most people

Tinkering with AI builds for enterprise software stuff has only increased my respect for designers and engineers. It’s cool to riff on ideas but this stuff is still *hard*.

It turns out the designer's most important role is to tell you that your taste sucks

Just remembered that on my way home on my bike last night I saw the local electrician trade school playing a slo-mo video of dancing Shetland ponies on a giant flatscreen facing the street. It was nice.

I came in ready to windmill dunk on this but it was regrettably accurate, boring, and accordingly depressing

Not 100% it was the first, but watching Signs in my friend’s basement messed me up. To this day, if I end up in a dark enough basement I will conclude there are aliens and I will react accordingly

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

They’re literally doing the Clear and Present Danger thing, except dumber?

Per declaration from the Pentagon's General Counsel, the OLC boat strike memo is TS/SCI, exists in hard copy only, there are only four hard copies, and DoD's sole copy is secured in his safe. Umm, ok This is not some sort of super secret squirrel CA program www.nytimes.com/2026/09/30/u...

Introducing the VC class to Factorio or Satisfactory is now a matter of national security. I promise guys, it’s plenty cool when you can use your jet pack to watch the fuel rods on the conveyor belts.

Ok. Definitely rushed the final act to the ending but already feeling the tug to reload some saves, if not start fresh entirely. Messy (especially skills/conditions) but some fantastic characters and voice performances. Very curious how different the director’s cut stuff will feel like in a few days

Every public beach in Chicago should have at least one of these.

On a short course of steroids to hopefully kill off the last of a lung infection and I didn’t remember just how insane they make you feel? I cannot stop sweating and crave lacto-fermented foods like I’ve never felt before. I would strike a man down for a Reuben. I would steal kimchi from a baby.

One of my favorite cases of someone being Wrong on the Internet was a very earnest, very confused vegan who was telling people how cruel honey is; and it eventually turned out they thought honey was made by putting bees in a centrifuge and spinning them around until they threw up.

I had a ton of success with food journaling/calorie tracking when I was training harder (or training at all, really). But it’s morose to realize that I sort of lost touch with how good cooking feels along the way?

Had a blast at Chicago MeasureCamp yesterday; fun talks and great chats with friends old and new. (But good heavens I am exhausted and this steady rain heralding fall is not helping in the slightest.)

I know I am a real weirdo because despite being significantly more internet-brained than most people in my day-to-day I still feel FOMO when I log on and see people talking about how hellacious the discourse has been.

*Spirals in precision/recall* Weird stuff, but potentially really neat

so it turns your plaintext query "will this person default on their loan? Here's everything I know about them race: [yadda yadda yadda]" into some embedding using, presumably, transformers, but it uses that to just output a single probability instead of a vector of token probabilities
