Over my last 7yrs in the classroom I wrote guided, student centric lessons for all of Alg2, PC & AB Calc Nothing overly creative, pretty standard curriculum/concepts, but it got students to engage with the material & make connections without explicit teacher instruction #MTBoS #iTeachMath #MathSky

Arsenal just lost to Fleetwood Town Arsenal’s roster: $1.5 billion Fleetwood Town’s: $3 million No exaggeration, it's like the Dodgers losing to a single A team Arsenal is top 2 in the premier (top English) league. Fleetwood is 18th in the 4th level (premier> championship> league 1> league 2)

To everybody at NCTM, I hope you're enjoying my city. Wish i could be there... either in session, or just to hang out and grab some food/drink with you all. But alas, the one year it's in Denver, I'm halfway around the world.

(also, if you happen to be walking around the great-hall (or whatever the equivalent is) and hear of anybody hiring a non-teaching MathEd role, either based in Denver or remote... please let me know!!).

Apparently some kids aren't happy with the lunches at my son's school. They tell their parents, parents complain... Apparently the school reached their limit & announced they're dropping the lunch program. On your own. As somebody who spend decades teaching at private schools... i get it all to well

We're doing a semester abroad, the school is bilingual so it's attracts an interesting combo of expats, many of which have the means/ desire to have chosen to leave a place... and with that come opinions. I'm convinced, the hardest part of running a private school is the parents.

Make it make sense.... [taken from a job posting] We are a fully remote, global workforce [...] Must be a U.S. citizen, currently residing in and based within the United States.

There are 32 teams in the NFL Teams are divided into 2 conferences (American & National) each of which is split into 4 divisions (North, South, East & West). So 8 groups of 4. Through 6(ish) games, there are 16 teams with a winnng record. What is the probability that 8 of them come from "North"?

I have been to a Cheesecake Factory once I felt completely overwhelmed by the appearance & the menu. Decor made no sense Menu was too much, covering way too many cuisines Food was fine... overpriced mediocrity. But given the current discourse, revisiting this from 9yrs ago... x.com/MaxKriegerVG...

x.commax krieger left. check the linktree (@MaxKriegerVG) on XIf you want a fully immersive "postmodern design hellscape" themed dining experience I highly recommend dinner at The Cheesecake Factory from a design perspective that place is fuckin wild and I'll talk a little bit about why

Using this definition, I just got in a disagreement with a guy (in thread) about the existence of a local max of f(x)=x² on [-1,2]... I'd say it's needlessly restrictive.

It's nice to get to teach this using a definition that isn't restrictive for no reason. #Mathsky 🧮

RAGBRAI, one of the world's oldest, largest, and longest recreational multi-day bicycle touring events. Brings people and revenue to small, rural Iowa towns... But go ahead, shit on what makes your state unique.

Joe Mitchell: "Thank God you're building the ballroom. Thank God you're getting rid of those awful bike lanes. We don't ride bicycles in Iowa."

There are a bunch of Amazon stand-mixers marketing the beater attachment as a salad mixer.... is this a thing? Feels like a good way to get a crushed salad... but what do i know.

When I moved to SF (24yo), I was desperate for a job. I interviewed at a SCUBA shop... they offered me a trial period position. First day I show up and they had me cleaning wetsuits for 4 hours. Supposed to come back a few days later for day 2. I called them before the shift, sorry i can't do this.

How much did Katie Zacharia get paid for 5 days of being White House Press Secretary? The internet says her salary was $195k. 5 days= 1 week. So rough estimate, 1/52nd of 195k... Just under 4k for one flail of a single press conference?

For the record, if you yell into a cavern, you’ll likely hear your words echoed back at you too. Does that mean you’re getting immediate feedback that the cave understands what you said?

(right before final descent) "This is your pilot, we have a delay as there is an animal on the runway. They're working to get it off. We'll circle until it's cleared. If they can't get it, we'll update you on alternate plans"

Traveling abroad really makes me appreciate how the listed price is the final price. No non-disclosed taxes. No expected tip. Something is listed as X, and I have X in my pocket, I can afford it. What a concept.

Sitting in the Tangier airport. An old Muslim woman (full hijab) just walked up to me and either politely cursed at me in Arabic or thought I could understand her.

Bueller?

A friend recently posted this on LinkedIn. Thoughts? I was a math major, but went into Ed vs becoming a mathematician, so I'm removed... but my gut is it's different- the mathematician feels driven by the end goal but more about the journey, whereas programming feels about a destination.

I haven't fact checked this, but if this is true, it's ridiculous. Every professional team (MLB, NFL, MLB, WNBA) has won 5 games in a row at some point since 1994.. except the browns. Even the Sonic, who haven't been a team for over half that span.

We're headed to Morocco in a few weeks and I'm struggling to figure out what loop to do... I posted to a FB group for insight and currently getting bombarded by "I can arrange, whatsapp #" They're really trying to prepare me for an authentic pushy souk experience before i even land...

America sometimes celebrates things for a day, sometimes a week, a few rare occasions signs of celebration are around for a month or two. I think it's safe to say Pumpkin Spice is our longest celebration which aptly is observed by an abundance of shitty, fake, processed flavors.

We're doing a term abroad so we're working with my son's school back home to make sure he's good when we get back They use OpenUp math I worked for Image Learning & had a heavy hand in their adaptation of IM (who wrote OpenUp 5-7) It's bizarre teaching my kid with print material I had a hand in

The teacher moves are still there... "okay, but what would you change if you read those instructions correctly?" Halfway thru he (jokingly) flipped me off, then texts his friend "I just flipped off my math teacher?" "What?? Yo. Cappp"

Bizarre things that happened in your assembly: admin decided to bring in a local female CEO to speak about women empowerment in a male dominated world. She turned out to be the CEO of Spanx.

In 1994, venues threatened Green Day over their opening act Pansy Division, an openly gay band. Even though they were just getting started, Green Day told the venues to fuck themselves & venues backed down Green Day had less power but more spine than Sheeran magnetmagazine.com/2009/04/08/m...

In 1964 The Beatles refused a show in Florida because the venue was going to be segregated. The city and venue backed down and The Beatles performed for an integrated crowd. It doesn't take a lot to stand up for what's right.
