I missed it the previous time it happened due to being busy with a close relative's birthday, so I had to make sure to acknowledge it earlier this time otherwise I'd definitely get my nerd card revoked! #MathSky #Mathematics #PythagoreanTheorem #MathChat #MathsChat

FWIW, here’s my take—as someone who loves music & is a Jew Excellent: Macklemore loudly & publiclycalling for Palestinian rights Excellent: Musicians rallying behind his call & dropping out of the tour in solidarity Bad: Sheeran’s promoter dropping Macklemore Bad: Macklemore’s Jewface

This shortcut is valid for all 6-digit numbers, with a slight caveat. To show the caveat, let's use it to find 857,853 days after Thursday: 853 - 857 = - 4 days after Thursday (🤨❓) This result should be thought of as 4 days before Thursday or Sunday. So, 857,853 days after Thursday is Sunday ✅

I'm glad someone else is enjoying numbers as well! Just as a reminder for your journey, though: Years like 2100, 2200, and 2300 are no longer leap years in our current Gregorian calendar because a year ending in 00 has to be a multiple of 400 to be considered leap Best of luck in your travels! :)

TIL that 4/4, 6/6, 8/8, 10/10 and 12/12 all fall on the same day in every year ever. Trying to teach my brain the doomsday algorithm to mentally do the math of what day of the week for any given date. This above is just one input. Numbers are fun!

Would you rather memorize ten formulas or just three? Also, keep in mind that this is just for the basics of kinematics and there are even more physics topics with their own sets of formulas! #MathSky #MathsSky #MathChat #MathsChat #Mathematics #Algebra

Know someone who is excellent at Geometry? Put their skills to the test by asking them to answer this geometry question I made! [Seems suspiciously straightforward, so solve safely!] #MathChat #MathsChat #MathSky #Mathematics #Geometry

Here's a mathematical puzzle made by yours truly dedicated to Carl Friedrich Gauss. Good luck to anyone who dares trying to crack it! :) #MathChat #MathsChat #Mathematics #Alphametic #Cryptarithm

I guess that's why Calculus can initially seem spooky at times 😂 [Disclaimer in case it wasn't already clear: While the information in this meme is technically true, it isn't meant to be taken too seriously!] #Mathematics #MathMeme #MathsMeme #JustForLaughs

Nice! There's even an elegant way to explain this "trick" visually. While the visual I've shown below technically only proves that the "trick" works for the 35² = 1225 case, similar visuals can indeed be made for all natural numbers ending in 5. I hope you enjoy it! #Mathematics #MathChat #MathsChat

One of my favorite mental math tricks: Squaring numbers ending in 5

Had to take the "She's 17, Scott" meme up a notch Explanation: Since Tagalog pronouns are gender-neutral, the remark of the Philippines is both calling Scott Pilgrim out for dating a 17-year-old while he was in his 20s while correcting him by saying that the country is actually on its 17th President

Math Nerd 1729@mathnerd1729.bsky.social

Scott Pilgrim: "Wait, what?! The Philippines?! It's been a while! Kamusta? How's it like dealing with President 20?" Philippines: "17 lang siya, Scott" Scott Pilgrim: "AW COME ON!"

While I am not Polish, I do find it somewhat hypocritical that the STEM community doesn't even try with this chemist's Polish surname while getting so particular about pronouncing Euler's surname properly. So, this is my improvement on a popular anagram of her abbreviated name being “Radium came” :)

A Timezone Inaccuracy from 1% Club UK Due to DST, this question has TWO answers. We could also start 2025-10-25 23:00:00 UTC [midnight October 26 in London & 7 PM October 25 in New York] and add 5 hours to get 2025-10-26 04:00:00 UTC [midnight October 26 in New York, but 4 AM October 26 in London].

Here's another nerdy & numerical New Year countdown I came across! This time, for the upcoming 2026. Enjoy using this for the upcoming year! :3 #Mathematics #MathSky #MathChat #MathsChat #NewYearCountdown #NewYear2026

just cuz it came up again recently - PSA we don't have a TikTok and anyone claiming to be us on TikTok is lying. The takedown system for impersonators is one of those "send your legal name and mailing address to the person you're about to piss off" situations so it's a bit of a perennial issue -R

Since this year is going to end in about 5 weeks, here's a long division puzzle I recently came up with featuring the current year. Enjoy solving it! :) #math #maths #mathematics #MathChat #MathsChat #mathpuzzle #mathspuzzle #mathematics #longdivision #longdivisionpuzzle

Here's a hint y'all: It never was about children in the first place.

Spooky Sasquatch@nerdysasquatch.bsky.social

Conservatives: "We have to protect children by censoring the internet!" Also Conservatives: "Let's let children starve, cut childcare funding, and traumatize them with blatant abductions." It's almost as if they don't care about keeping kids safe.

To clarify, encouraging someone to kill someone else is obviously bad. However, we also shouldn't expect the oppressed to mourn the oppressors after their death. If we're going to remember Charlie Kirk's legacy, we need to acknowledge all of it including his bigoted views

Math Nerd 1729@mathnerd1729.bsky.social

I don't even bother with the New York Times opinions. It's not all that surprising that the exact same news network who published a swastika crossword on the first day of Hanukkah 2022 & tried to defend J. K. Rowling less than a week after a trans teen got murdered would end up praising Charlie Kirk

Mrs. Betty Bowers@mrsbettybowers.bsky.social

Charlie Kirk was a white supremacist who pushed the racist Great Replacement Theory. Kirk was vociferously anti-LGBTQ. Kirk's final words were to besmirch Black people. Stop this revisionism. People who say bad things don't deserve to be murdered, but they also don't deserve to be praised either.

Just found another one . . . for real though, I feel bad for the members of his family who could end up affected too despite possibly knowing better than him #immigration #news #numerology #coincidence

WCK can use your donations. They are on the ground in Gaza, doing what they can in the face of a staggering and ongoing crime against humanity.

That moment when you only noticed that July 24, 2025 was a Pythagorean Triple Day (7-24-25) a day too late . . . seems like I unfortunately may have to get my nerd card revoked *sigh* [I was focused on a relative of mine's birthday that day] #MathSky #Pythagoras #MathArt #MathChat #MathsChat

A spooky calculation I thought of 🧮 1. Choose four distinct single digits. 2. Form all three-digit numbers possible using three distinct digits from those you picked 3. Divide the sum of the three-digit numbers found by the sum of the four distinct digits. You'll always get 666, but why? #MathSky

Looked up the factors of 2581 and forgot to put "-ai", so I ended up stumbling across this wrong solution which immediately caught my attention since I knew that 31 times 51 equals 1581. Luckily, the mathematical webpages below it gave the correct factorization of 29 times 89. #MathSky #Numeracy

Also, Thanks To Them would turn 1000 days old on 11 July 2025 at 9 PM (UTC-04:00). Poor Luz really needed a hug 🫂 [Disclaimer: I don't use Disney+ due to boycotts & haven't liked Disney as a corporation for quite a while. I just wanted to talk about a cartoon fandom I'm in]

One can say that Zionism is just a tool for a large part of these 'religious' Christians for achieving their own goals and less about the goal of Jewish Zionism, but there has to be some kind of overall term for the Christians who claim their own religion as their reason for supporting Israel.

As much as I'm a fan of Matt Parker, I can't help but note that he may be off by a week 14π years × 365.2425 days per year on average = 16064.204... days. And 16064 days after the birthdate listed on his Wikipedia article would actually be Dec 15th. Still, thanks for inspiring us nerds, Matt! :)

Matt Parker@standupmaths.bsky.social

Today is my 14π birthday! So this is a reminder that whenever you turn a multiple of 22 you also turn a very-close-to-multiple of π.

While we're talking about NYT, they also released an Opinion article defending J. K. Rowling a few days after Brianna Ghey's death in 2023 and published a crossword which looked suspiciously like an anti-Semitic symbol in the beginning of Hanukkah 2022. So, this may be somewhat on brand for them

I dunno David, showing sympathy for a group usually includes opposing state efforts to ban the healthcare that they need. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/08/o...

That feeling when you leave a cartoon fandom early due to bad experiences then much later come across photos of a director showing support for an oppressor & the show's merch ending up in the damage left by said oppressor Let's just say that I may have made a good decision (if you know, you know)

This reminded me of that incident on the old platform that I barely interact with where some people accused an artist of using AI for fan-art because they didn't recall that the character shown canonically had 6 fingers

Cody Webb@therealcodywebb.bsky.social

I feel bad for everyone that sucks at drawing hands. Because everyone’s going to accuse you of using AI about the thing you’re most sensitive about It’s like if people accused me of being a robot because my hair is thinning
