2022 #61 This book was brought to my attention on the old Twitter and it is an excellent little guide to who's who in the literature of the American midwest and I've read some fine novels as a result of it's recommendations. Leon Forrest's immense Divine Days is still on the tbr pile.. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #booksky

I love how certain cities hold their most iconic musicians as patron saints and part of the city's identity. Minneapolis has Prince. We in Austin Have Willy. New Orleans has Dr. John. Genuinely curious: Who is your city's musical patron saint?

I love my father dearly (turns 89 this year!) but his worst tidying-up-the-house habit was combining boxes of cereal into one box to save space. We were eating off-brand stuff to start with, and now some sad kid* had to settle for a bowl of Dusty Puffed Lucky CharmiOs. *me

We often discuss our favorite childhood cereals but..what were your LEAST favorite cereals as a kid? The ones your parents foisted on you, were stuck with when the good stuff ran out, or that you had to eat at a friend's house, etc..

CLASS PLANNING HELP! I'm teaching a course on Literary Feuds & Culture Wars next semester. I'm looking for novels, short stories, poems that dramatize feuds or culture war debates about literature, writing, or art. What are the great (& teachable) literary feuds of the last 50 years?

Krackel. I know it's basically a Crunch bar, but the minis had a different size/texture/something.

When you were a kid, what were your most UNDERRATED Halloween trick or treat candies? The ones that weren't your top favorites, but that you were still happy to get in your bag, and that never let you down

On this opening day of the World Series, my story, "Big Leaguer," about baseball, fatherhood, and a doctor's appointment for a sperm count check, is now live in the latest World Series themed issue of @thetwinbill.bsky.social thetwinbill.com/big-leaguer/

My FLW knowledge isn't all it could be, but IIRC, acrylic-glass roofing is not original to Taliesin West. Wright preferred canvas shades, but they weathered poorly and eventually got replaced with glass.

Police confirmed acrylic glass struck and killed a visitor at Taliesin West. Questions remain about how it was secured.

Book safes are sad because they're premised on the idea that nobody would think to open a book to find something valuable. As evidenced by the online seller of this book, perhaps.

The author is dead! (Crowd cheers) But the author function lives on (crowd boos) Rather than attributing the text to a single origin point, we as critics must map the complex web of institutions and power relations that constitute "authorship" (crowd yawns, disperses)

The dysfunction in this thread is triggering because it echoes what I saw and heard and experience in Web 1.0-era journalism in SF. But it speaks to how messy editorial leadership can be. Oh, you're really good a pulling public records? We're gonna put you in charge of *people*!

I never do these, but: hired as a Web producer at TechTV in about 1999. My desk was a hub between two other desks: computer or notebook, not both. One week in, I was called before a group to discuss the progress I had made on creating a new web site. I had never been told to do that. Tenure: 1 week.
