Not a great analogy but I take your point. However, I go to bars that are owned by people I don't like and there are those in the bar whose views I don't share but many who have interesting and worthwhile things to say. And I think it's okay to do that

If there was a big AI conference in SF, and the organizer on stage ranted about trans people and immigrants, gave a Nazi salute, and demoed an antisemitic chatbot that allowed you to nudify minors, would you really stay because "that's where the AI conversation is happening?" I just don't get it.

I don’t have any idea what the solution to the bigger problem for literature is, but it strikes me as completely outrageous that the Atlantic would level such a serious charge against an author without an iota of actual evidence. And no, a black box analysis by another AI program is not evidence.

Why some people (including me) are spending more time on Twitter Momentum seems to be shifting back to Twitter/X, and I have been feeling it too. I don't love it for all the obvious reasons, but it is the best place to keep track of what is happening in AI

How do we regulate something we can’t even understand? Everyone agrees we need to find ways to keep AIs from going "rogue," but we already can't plumb the depths of what these models are doing, and their "thinking" is getting even more opaque

I don’t like it but the Trump DoJ is right on AI and fair use I don’t like to agree with a Trump-related entity but the DoJ’s brief in the NYT-OpenAI case is correct on the facts IMO — indexing of content for AI training should be considered fair use, since it is clearly transformative
