I'm just some guy in Cleveland.

I don't drive much. I don't even have my own car anymore. But today I borrowed My Weird Friend Jamie's car to run several errands. *Three different times* I observed the accessible parking spaces being used. Not one of the users had that logo on plate or placard. I think it's a lot of doordashing.

Also, other drivers are *absolutely wild* out there. Some antisocial maniac just breezing through a VERY RED (not "pink") light on 25th, different guy revving from a standing stop to run a red light on Denison in the 80s. Car entitlement is some extraordinary level of batshit.

Oh and last night I'm walking at an absolutely normal pace down 73rd and some rando in front of the vape shop chooses *that moment* to start his car and turn *right into me* whilst crossing Brinsmade. There's no way to predict this! Parked cars don't stay parked!

Tens of thousands of protestors are facing off against tens of thousands of police in the capital of India, as they demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner who has illegally deleted millions of people from India's electoral rolls. Biggest democracy story on the planet, not in BSky.

Out of concerns about antisemitism, I’m joining my friend Robert Kraft in banning Israel critic Macklemore from my stadium. Here’s a link for Kanye West tickets at that same stadium. by Jerry Jones

Remember in March 2020 how we discovered the extraordinary powers that some state constitutions give their governors in an emergency situation? And how shocked + angry certain people were about those powers? You know what, we can reconsider those powers now if we want.

This right here. I am so tired of the "what could be causing all the weather drama?" in media. Fake uncertainty is a denialist tactic.

I am a scientist – and the answer is climate change. Yes, there is nuance. Yes, it could take a long time to identify the precise mechanisms. But there is no question why ice and snow-related disasters are on the rise. Our planet is warming at an unprecedented rate, and humans are responsible.

Ketan is making several good points here, but to me the most important thing is that percentage targets are nonsense. The only metric that matters is *how rapidly we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions.* Physics doesn't care about the ratios or the increase in renewables.

KetAnthropic JoshAI@ketanjoshi.co

I have become pretty obsessed with why people - including many climate and renewable advocacy groups - keep insisting that "data centres will drive the energy transition" Here is a ~5,000 word essay I wrote on my blog that digs into why this keeps happening -->>> ketanjoshi.co/2026/08/14/p...

There's something that is so much more persuasive and inspirational about just knowing what your business is and being about it, rather than chasing around people who are opposed to any changes and openly pandering to them by validating their worst impulses. Is this obvious? It seems obvious.

I don't ask for much, but can everyone please understand that EST = Eastern Standard (as opposed to Daylight) Time? So it's nonsensical to tell me a meeting is at 5pm EST today. That's not a thing.

It's weird, specifically the 71, it's typically dawdling for 5-10 extra minutes at its starting point on Rockwell & 3rd. It is literally there. I am often staring right at it, but the operator simply doesn't start driving until.

This needs to be 8 hours of an actual blind guy reciting the poem from memory or I call horse shit.

When I worked in WaPo Opinions in 2017-2018, senior editors specifically told junior editors not to factcheck Marc Thiessen and other MAGA columnists, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to publish anything by them at all, and “we need them for intellectual diversity.”

around 55% of Americans live in a metro area of at least a million, it is true that the median voter has no degree and the things that excite assistant professors will possibly not excite them, that doesn't mean you need to engage in the Joe the plumber cosplay, just have some basic self awareness

I don't NEVER fly, but I've passed up many opportunities for cool trips solely because of the carbon burn. And I literally never fly to Chicago / DC / NYC because Amtrak burns less carbon than air travel. So this fuckery pisses me off SO much. ONE JERKFACE is canceling 100x of what I conserved.

The Rooster@rooster.info

Vivek Ramaswamy ended his July 4 celebrations by flying his private jet to Paris. $21,700ish in fuel costs. 35 metric tons of carbon into the atmosphere while France and Ohio weltered under historic heat waves. His fifth international vacation this year.

It's a hell of a thing to hear pundits and politicians shit-talking current refugees using the same bigoted tropes they attacked my Irish great-grandparents with. They don't just hate the Haitians, Somalis, and Congolese. They hate every decent person who is struggling.

I'll do the more substantive complaint when I get home, but honestly FFS Cleveland RTA. They re-routed the 18 bus to circumvent a few blocks of Trowbridge Avenue with no signs, no alerts, nothing on the website, no GTFS update.

Putting a note on the stop is insufficient because apps still see the standard route. They don't interpret the note. They earnestly tell you the bus will get to you in five minutes, when in fact it's never coming at all.

They just... changed the route NINE DAYS AGO (says the helpline operator) and... didn't tell anyone. It's being wildly, recklessly incompetent at the second most important part of being a public transit system.

This! Is a hell of an admission! Dude is saying out loud that Dems in "Ohio" could possibly "run the table" by running against data centers but *that would be bad* because they want to be able to "strike better deals" (WaPo's word choice) instead of being the "party of 'no.'" (his words) 1/

So instead of *taking control of state government* as a strong possibility, this Party leader prefers to "strike deals" for a thing that *most people* have said they don't want at all. "To strike deals" is a euphemism of course. Dude is openly advocating corruption over *winning elections.* 2/

In 2010 I caught this moving violation that was bogus in every way, and I made a whole project out of the appeals case. It was fun! And I've kind of made this event my whole personality. Anyway, while this was going on, people kept asking me "Isn't that a frivolous lawsuit?" aaaaaaaaaaa

I don't think there's literally a rule that "it's not perjury if you win" but... yeah actually, it's a *wild* stretch to claim a witness perjured in a case in which they prevailed. It's not like some devastating contrary facts emerged later.

Also, fun fact, under "Ohio" law a witness (such as a cop who wrote you a bogus moving violation) can be excluded from testifying if you can show they don't actually remember the events they were trying to testify about. It's a variation on "hearsay."

Anyway, not quite the same thing but sort of parallel, I'm hearing that E. Jean Carroll is being investigated for perjury in a civil case *that she won.* The finder of fact (jury?) found her testimony credible enough to find in her favor. bsky.app/profile/acyn...

Acyn@acyn.bsky.social

CNN: The DOJ has launched a new criminal investigation into one of Trump's enemies, E. Jean Carroll. The source is telling CNN that the investigation now is focused on whether she committed perjury during her two civil lawsuits against the president.

usually people say “police state” to mean a government that uses police to exercise an extreme level of control but the US is a “police state” in that the police all but run the state and are generally more powerful than mayors and governors
