I used to wear a pork pie hat but the jelly kept dribbling in my ears.

MAN: I’m so depressed at the cruel futility of existence. DOCTOR: Then go see Pagliacci the clown. MAN: But I am Pagliacci the clown! DOCTOR: Then go see Joe the clown. He’s pretty good too. MAN: OK. Thanks.

Miracles were the original Jackass stunts. “Hi, I’m Jesus Christ and this is the walking on water challenge.”

Have finally got around to framing this sketch of Douglas Adams by the legendary Rod Lord, used as the basis of a picture in one of the animated sequences in the 1981 TV series of The Hitch-Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. (I bought it from Rod last year, hence the 2025 date on the signature sticker.)

That wah-wah pedal in the Yes, Minister theme creates an expectation of car chases and gun-toting pimps the show is in no position to deliver.

Only when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish been caught, and the last stream poisoned, will we realize we cannot eat money. Except those chocolate coins you get at Christmas. They’re amazing.

Hearing that Russell T Davies stepped aside so Andy Burnham could save Doctor Who

Posing with the Gower Street Dalek. The Doctor Who anthology featuring my story “The Boy and the Dalek” is now available in paperback.

A light sprinkling of Dalek urine in your garden will deter Cybermen from going through your bins at night.

‪If Manchester were always this sunny Joy Division's songs would have been a lot more cheerful.‬

Reservoir Dogs except instead of them all listening to K-Billy’s Super Sounds of the Seventies, it’s The Food Programme with Derek Cooper.

Science fiction story Man goes to a friend, reveals that he is in fact an alien (they have known each other for many years). He must now leave the Earth which is threatened with extinction, and offers to take his friend with him. (Notebook in Douglas Adams Collection, St John's College) #TowelDay

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...you should probably pop it back in the oven for a bit.

Great news. It’s one hell of a book.

“LOVE YOUR ENEMY!” Revisiting Potter’s ‘Son of Man’ after our visit to the Forest of Dean and Colin Blakeley’s furious, subversive Christ is still breathtaking.

I've just been made aware of the fact that The Singing Detective is still up in its entirety on iPlayer. One of the BBC's many best things ever. Put aside a few nights and be *astonished*. Available for a month. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

Out now in paperback! This collection features Doctor Who stories by me, Paul Magrs, Katy Manning, Janelle McCurdy and others. Run, slither or teleport to your local independent bookseller to order one today.

‪I like to imagine Paul McCartney’s singing “In this ever changing world in which we’re living” in Live and Let Die instead of the actual grammatical car-crash he uses in the song. It gets me through the night.‬

Fun At One - the story of comedy at BBC Radio 1. If you spent your evenings listening to Mark Radcliffe, Lee And Herring and Collins And Maconie's Hit Parade, this book is for you! Paperback (15% off code EARTHDAY15) or Kindle from here. timworthington.org/books/fun-at...

Today I’m visiting the Dennis Potter archive at the Dean Heritage Centre, seeing incredible handwritten manuscripts for works like The Singing Detective, Traitor, A Beast with Two Backs and Vote, Vote, Vote for Nigel Barton.

Mr Men are really into brogues, aren’t they? Had the range published a year or two later they might all have been drawn wearing Adidas three stripes.

“For Ringo, press the star key.”

When Lana Del Rey sings about her boyfriend playing video games I like to imagine he’s playing Chuckie Egg on a Spectrum.

We lost Kenith Trodd last weekend, a brilliant producer and forward-thinking man who believed deeply in television and the British screen. He was ahead of his time in many ways. "A film is a film is a film." My tribute is now up on the BFI website: www.bfi.org.uk/news/kenith-...
