喃語 is a band from Hokkaido that are probably even in Japan a little niche. Their album あうおあう is one of my favourites of this year. I was wondering how they play this song live (you'll understand if you listen to the version on record). I'm actually quite happy they didn't just play the sample. #喃語

I know that what I do is less effective in terms of learning (I will often forget kanji I looked up straight away), but I feel treating it like study would (for me) remove some of the enjoyment of reading.

I fucking hate ridiculous, misleading ads like this. Speak fluent Japanese in three weeks? If that was true, this would be an absolute miracle app. But more likely, "fluent" here means being able to fluently say ありがとうございます… 🙄

Wow... Also toe x MOTFD 👀

I've heard of relay translations before (kind of like that game where you whisper a word into the ear of the person next to you, and they pass it on to the next person, and so on, until at the end a completely different word comes out 😅), but this is the first time I've seen an actual case.

I watched 左様なら (Sayounara) tonight, and really liked it. It centres on teenage girl Yuki, played wonderfully by 芋生悠 Haruka Imou, living in a sleepy seaside town, dealing with the suicide of her closest friend and all the horrid high school clique stuff.

I also just remembered that in one scene, they are talking about the band For Tracy Hyde, but are calling it フォトハイ、which I hadn't heard before. It's typical Japanese truncation, but if I had seen/heard it without knowing, I'd never have guessed what it meant. 😆

I love/hate Japanese onomatopoeic words - love them because they're fun, hate them because there seem to be millions of them 😆 Today's new one to me is ガタゴト (gatagoto), meaning rattling or clattering.

I'm regularly using the NHK easy news site (NHK news written in easier to understand Japanese) and I only just found out that the Asahi Shinbun does one too... やさしい朝日新聞 #LearningJapanese #日本語を勉強する https://yasashii.asahi.com/
