Every map search says where you live, work and sleep. For most Canadians, that map is American, and so is the company holding the answers. Maple Maps is the Canadian one. Built here, hosted in Montréal, Canadian-owned businesses marked with a leaf. No ads. No data sold. Ever. maplemaps.ca

maplemaps.caMaple Maps — Navigation made for CanadaMaple Maps is a navigation app built for Canada: live traffic and closures, a maple leaf on Canadian-owned businesses, English or French, and data that stays in Canada. The iPhone beta is open.

Google has finally approved build 60 for Android users which means CarPlay should be up and running! They did identify a couple issues we’ll need to review but it should still be usable for testers. Thank you for your patience and thanks for sticking with us!

That said, we've pushed iOS testers onto the latest build (62) this evening. We were trying to wait until Android was approved so the versions weren't so far apart but there are some big features and bug fixes that needed to go out to make sure the app is giving everyone the best experience possible

Google is still holding our build in review. It's been nearly 2 weeks that it's been sitting waiting to pass review. It's now been escalated twice so hopefully it gets sorted out soon. It has all kinds of goodies including Android Auto which we CANNOT wait to get into tester's hands.

Pretty frustrated this evening. The newest version that has Android Auto and a lot of new features/fixes has been waiting in review with Google for 4 days. Not sure what's causing it to take so long and we're so excited to get the newest version out to you all. Refreshing the page every few minutes.

Quick update to anyone wondering where things are at for Android. Google finally approved our open beta track with an old version. We've started the process twice now to get a newer version reviewed and found bugs before it was approved so we pulled the release before it could go out.

Feeling confident that all the little bugs for Android Auto have finally been worked out and just doing some final testing today to confirm. Once we stop finding issues there we'll send a new version for google review. It will be a process and this is what it'll look like:

First we'll upload it to our closed testing track so that current users can get the newest update for testing — this should be faster.🤞 Once that's been reviewed and approved we'll push it for the open track and send out links to the over 900 of you who are waiting for an invite.

Small update: First, we're still waiting on Google to finish its review of our Android open beta test which has been holding us back since September 13th. Once it's approved we'll be able to update the app for anyone on iOS or Android to fix a number of known bugs and share new features.

. Second, we're working on adding proper pronunciations of road names and places in Inuktitut and Cree. If anyone speaks Cree, Inuktitut and/or Anishinaabe we'd love to send you some audio clips to review and provide feedback for.

Need your honest opinion: Currently, Maple Maps is only available in Canada with maps of Canada. Should we open it up for our American friends to use too? And if we do, what’s the first place we should rename?

Wow! I hadn't checked in a couple days but we're up to nearly 4000 people who've expressed interest in joining our Beta which is humbling and overwhelming! Not a lot of updates in the last couple days so I'd like to share some important info:

We currently have one big thing holding us up: we're waiting for Google to review our open beta submission so that we can move from an invite model to just freely distributing a link to join. Once that submission is in, we can't push out any more updates without restarting the submission.

That said, here are a few features to look forward to: - Android Auto will be in the next release! - Routing with multiple stops - Bug fixes galore (including choppy audio) - More accurate routing - Large Text Mode (Simpler UI with large text - also good for small phones)

Development is going well. We've been reading and replying to all your emails and feedback and implementing bug fixes and new features regularly. That said, many of these fixes and features aren't available yet for you to see as they require a new build/version.

More accurate routes, measured in Canada instead of licensed from abroad. Drivers can now share how fast roads really move and which turns construction has closed. Anonymous, off until you say yes, and here is every field it sends: maplemaps.ca/news/2026-09...

There was a brief slow down that might have felt like an outage for some. We were in the process of adding a bunch of new business listings and tweaking map tiles and it caused things to get backlogged. Should be all fixed now and as a bonus you should be getting more results when you search

The Canadian map now knows every house in the country, every bus that runs past it, and how to say "chemin Giroux". Maple Maps 1.0: transit in 111 cities with real-time arrivals, a French voice named Céline, three routes that are really three. No ads, no data sold, hosted in Canada. maplemaps.ca

Sorry to anyone who experienced some slowness or freezing while using maps this afternoon/evening. Turns out that building and running a national mapping service and adding on live transit data takes some beefier hardware than what we initially set up.

Sunday is when we rebuild our database and incorporate any new data and between the new transit features we've been building and this database work everything seized up. That said, a new beefier server is on the way and will hopefully give us a lot more room to build. Thanks for sticking with us!

Hey again! Late night update: Today has been all about refinement. We started the day by announcing we've added a lot of new address data to our own database. Throughout today we've been working on cleaning that data against our other sources to remove duplicates.

We've managed to do (what we think) is a pretty good job of chopping the parts of that phrase up so that the common parts like "Turn right in 400 meters onto" meshes well with the road name. It's about 90-95% the quality of where it was when it was generated all together.

What it means is that directions are less likely to fail and fall back to the default phone voice. Last note for tonight: MANY people have written to ask about transit directions. We're happy to say that it's in the works and well underway. See you soon transit riders!

Reroutes were also not acknowledging when people were driving and just assumed a stagnant starting point rather than the reality that when it reroutes you've usually missed an exit or chosen to pass it and won't be doing a U turn in the middle of the road.

We were very happy with the improvements to the quality of voice navigation prompts, however, they were extremely taxing to generate. Every direction was completely unique which means the whole phrase "Turn right in 400m at Canada Road" was made and could only ever be used for that specific prompt

Some of the search/duplicates data fixes are live and some of them require us to do a full rebuild which is scheduled to happen once a week (unless we push it faster but then everything goes down for a while).

Beyond that, we put a bunch of work into fixing how the system reroutes people when users go off the chosen route. It had be frustratingly sticky and REALLY wanted you to go what it thought was the fastest way.

DEV UPDATE: We've just managed to incorporate a ton of new address data and fine tune how search results are showing up. In addition, search results should come quicker and the closed roads/traffic should be more reliable.

This doesn't require an update and should be live for anyone using the latest version of the app. Some of you may have experienced some strange behaviour regarding search and routing in the last few hours and overnight. Hopefully that's all fixed now.

As part of Maple Maps' focus on promoting Canadian businesses with a special focus on local business I'd like to try and make a daily post about another Canadian company that needs our support. Yesterday I shared a video from eSupply Canada, a Canadian Indigenous owned office supply company.

Running out of midnight oil to burn! Got a bit overexcited and pushed out new build this evening without stress testing it fully. Then we pushed out a new build quickly thinking it fixed the issue but it didn't. Didn't want to leave anyone hanging so we're pushing out one last build tonight.

Through all this work we discovered our residential address listings are quite thin which means a lot of residential address lookups will be falling back on TomTom for search. We've kept it around as a failsafe for exactly this reason.

This one should make sure that searches are properly finding what you're looking for and accurately showing the results in the correct order. There's a bit more to it under the hood but with but the hope is search should just work as you would expect.

Build 30 (iOS) and Release 17 (Android) are out for testing. Make sure to update your app so you can get the newest features. TL;DR: - Maps, routing, search, map icons, etc... have been rebuild in house. TomTom is only used for traffic and as a fallback. - Two new much more realistic voices added

👏🎟️ Invites have gone out to over 600 new people who've signed up for the beta. If you signed up as an iPhone user you'll get a message from TestFlight. If you signed up as an Android user you'll get an invite email from us.

Getting a new build ready to go out feels like a game of whack-a-mole. By the time everything looks good to go, there are another dozen emails with great feedback and bug reports! It's a good problem to have and we're so grateful for everyone sending in their feedback.
