Enjoying a night out with some astrophysics @profbriancox.bsky.social #EmergenceWorldTour including some {way too short} 80s keyboard indulgence 🀘 Europeβ€˜s the final countdown. In an expanding universe, galaxy spectra can only get redder …. 🎢

Drowning in Image data? Know there’s a better way to analyse it, but don’t know where to start? πŸ“£ UK-BIAS to the rescue! πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»πŸ§‘β€πŸ’»πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’»We’re the first dedicated #BioImageAnalysis service in the UK-node of @eurobioimaging.bsky.social bringing together specialists from ten UK institutions. πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»πŸ§‘β€πŸ’»πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’»

The workflow combines controlled shear flow, TEER measurements, immunofluorescence and confocal imaging to assess barrier formation and endothelial–astrocyte interactions under dynamic conditions. A useful practical resource for researchers developing or working with BBB-on-chip models.

Love a good {partial} solar eclipse, even more so a solar eclipse sunset, and then topped off with the Perseid meteor shower. By eye Astronomy at its finest.

Thank you also to the attendees for attending and doing their best keeping up with our teaching. Hopefully, we will see many more python pipelines in the future coming from your labs... πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‡πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’»πŸ§‘β€πŸ’»

Lots of machine learning skills and tools that are being showcased and used by the attendees hands on. Again, thanks to Euro-BioImaging for concertating four nodes: Sweden, UK, Portugal and Czech Republic.

We (Stefania Marcotti, Todd Fallesen and myself) are teaching at The Francis Crick Institute, supported by Georgina Fletcher. Yesterday we grappled with creating environments, and getting used to jupyter notebooks plus a teaser on image analysis in jupyter notebooks.

Today we are getting into the nitty gritty of classic image analysis including pre-processing, thresholding, spot detection, watershedding, feature extraction and building a whole workflow. Tomorrow, we are tackling machine learning approaches.

Peatlands are powerful. Here are just a few reasons why… 1. Peatland vegetation slows the flow of rainfall which helps reduce the risk of flooding in nearby towns and villages. Peatlands only cover around 3% of the world's surface but contains more carbon than all the world's rainforests.

I knew about pixels and voxels but was today introduced to spaxels: A spaxel (spatial pixel) is the smallest spatial element in an integral field spectroscopy dataset, representing a specific position on the sky with an associated spectrum.
