In line at AAA. The friendly lady taking photos keeps asking people where they're traveling and then hitting the shutter the second they start talking. Despite that, the couple ahead of me somehow ended up with the most flattering passport photos I've ever seen. Am I being pranked?

PAID GIG: I'm looking for someone who knows Spanish Sign Language. I'm going to be translating a graphic novel where SSL is featured (hooray for d/Deaf rep!!) and I want to be sure that I get the text aligned with the signs in the artwork. This should be happening at some point this year. #xl8

In the Renaissance people theorized, since the Aeneid is great, if you wrote poems made only of words & phrases from the Aeneid rearranged they should be great too, since a great source regurgitated should yield greatness. They produced NOTHING we still read. Thinking about that a lot lately.

The panel @joeyverse.bsky.social and I put together for last year's CONvergence is now up on YouTube! If you want to see us blab about what style guides are and why they matter (or don't) to authors, editors, and publishers, check it out here.

When I minored in Japanese, I hoped I'd get some chances to use it in my future career, but I gotta say I never predicted it would involve Godzilla and Ninja Turtles comics.

I don't post all that often about what I'm working on, but in addition to a whole lot of comic series and graphic novels, one of my big ongoing projects for IDW has been copyediting this—the new official Godzilla TTRPG!

I know it’s difficult right now, but I insist that you seek and enjoy beautiful things, even if it seems frivolous or irresponsible in the face of overwhelming horror. I want you to feed yourself artistically, spiritually, and literally, because you can’t Do The Work when you’re starving.

Also overnight, someone totally destroyed the memorial outside my Whittier apartment building where there's been a vigil every night since Alex Pretti was killed. Ours was so tiny that it's probably unrelated… but if so, it's a hell of a coincidence.

Someone doused Renee Good’s Minneapolis memorial and a nearby pile of wood with gasoline and started a fire at about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

I wrote about how getting my first tattoo was unexpectedly helpful in dealing with the ICE occupation and how Minnesota tattoo shops are acting as sites of self-care, mutual aid, and ways to just say “Fuck ICE.” (thanks, @nepenthestattoo.com 💜)

twincitiesgeek.comTattooing as Self-Care and Resistance“One thing all tattoos have in common is that they represent ownership, connection, and expression of the body and self.”

My neighborhood is in the news for a horrible reason. But at the protests and vigils today, I saw humanity at its best. People constantly distributing hand warmers in the subzero temps. People opening their homes and businesses. People setting out tables with supplies. People caring for each other.

Today it came to my neighborhood. ICE killed Alex Pretti in a spot I've walked through hundreds of times in the 12+ years I've lived in Whittier. Every day since this occupation started, there's been a new horror. It won't stop until we get them out.

I should also be clear—today is when the killing came here, but it's far from ICE's first visit. Just days ago, they were gassing people blocks away from this intersection. And they will just keep escalating.

We are calling for an end to the occupation, for federal agents to be held accountable for their actions, and for Congress to immediately intervene. And when you see all of us marching out there, keep in mind that the warmest it’s expected to get today is about −10°F (before windchill). (4/5)

If you’re outside MN and want to help, there are a lot of great nonprofits that could use your support, like the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota. And call your reps—tell them not to fund ICE and to hold officials and agents accountable for violating constitutional and human rights. (5/5)

Protesters, observers, journalists, and unsuspecting bystanders have been physically attacked, gassed, and held without charge. This is not a targeted operation to hunt down dangerous criminals. ICE agents are the ones committing crimes and violating our constitutional rights. (3/5)

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Worth noting: Everyone is furious. Everyone is heartbroken. But when a guy tried to turn "Fuck ICE!" into "Kill ICE!" all of us around him shut it down IMMEDIATELY.
