I saw this garbage at least twice and it's the most blatantly racist ad I've seen in the US in my 50 years.

josh boo-erman 👻@bosh.worstpossible.world

just saw this absolutely cracked ad during the michigan game about how thanks to aoc and ilhan omar, white people can't show their faces in public anymore

I've learned to deal with hoodie-string chewers, but today in my micro test I had a jogger-string chewer and I truly think the line for chewing clothing strings has to be the waist.

David Fasold, a supporter of Wyatt. published a book in 1988 that argued for Durupinar as the Ark’s location. 8 years later, he coauthored a paper concluding that it was a natural formation. The same investigator helped make the case for the “Ark” and later campaigned against it. #NoahsArk #Geology

Maga world gives no shits about Eric Schmitt schmitting the bed in front of Jack Smith. If their flimsy conspiracy theory is true then they can gloat about catching a Dem red-handed; if it's not then if libs react they can laugh about "owning"then; and if libs don't react the story dies

I wonder if this casual analysis considered the number of Nicholas Cage movies. www.tylervigen.com/spurious-cor...

P.S. In the interests of fairness - his update to that chart + a recent rebuttal where a regression model of "8 variables in total (a short-term one and a long-term one for each of eggs, gas, rent, and bond yield)" manages to fit the changes in sentiment just about perfectly.

So lovely spending two days in jury selection with a random cross section of the community knowing that you're 99% certain to be one of the lawyers' peremptory strikes.

Donnie gets -20 points (out of a possible 10 points). I actually got dumber reading this and would give a better score for a blank response. Drop slips (which don't even exist anymore) can be picked up at the registrar's office.

I fear that people might be getting sick of hearing my views on the world. So this time, an open thread for econ faculty to grade this submission on the meaning of a trade deficit.

One aspect of research funding that it took me a while as a prof to appreciate: Someone who directs significant funding can shape the questions researchers investigate, *even researchers they don't directly fund*. Why? Because many researchers chase citations, and better-funded areas get cited more.

W/o getting drawn into the "seriously or literally" / "it'll never happen" trap, we need to stomp *hard* on the continuing effort to undermine Article 1 power of the purse by saying that this or that revenue stream makes something outside the normal budget process. 1/ www.nbcnews.com/business/eco...

nbcnews.comLutnick says Trump’s $5,000 checks for Americans wouldn’t rely on taxpayer fundsA top White House official suggested Congress would use a budget process to fund them. Vice President JD Vance had said tariff revenues.

Casual inference is the art of knowing why your estimate isn't casual, claiming it is anyway, and adding a bunch of "proofs" to your methods section to confuse reviewers. Bonus points for fancy notation like integral symbols or Kronecker products.

With this supposedly-Christian ethos we should have the best education system in the world, right? ... Right? Because otherwise it'd be like they just don't want to feed the poor OR teach them so they can feed themselves, and gosh that would be pretty hypocritical.

Counterpoint: I've never heard of a speed camera citing someone for rolling a right turn and then shooting the person.

alex davis@alexdavistransit.bsky.social

Oh of course. The DSA chapter trying to make Long Beach Transit free also wants to get rid of all the speed cameras because they "prey on the working class". 🤦

I can't do much against textbook corporate greed but by adopting open educational resources I fight corporate textbook greed every semester.

Uber just announced it will lay off 10% of its workforce, or around 3,300 workers. Last year, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi made $35M — 360 times his median employee's pay — and announced a $20B stock buyback program to further enrich shareholders and himself. Textbook corporate greed.

Admins: you must make online only options for all of your courses and programs. Also admins: you must drive 2 hours each way to come in and talk to students over a video screen 8 hours a day, five days a week.

Nick Kapur@nickkapur.bsky.social

Making university faculty sit in their offices from 8 am to 5 pm every day, 5 days a week, is insane and serves no conceivable academic purpose. The fact that admins and even *staff* are exempt from this absurd requirement shows the real goal is to make tenured faculty quit.

Yup. Downsizing by attrition.

Or read the syllabus, or come to class, or write the essay with or without AI...

I love how R politicians think teachers have the ability to convince kids to transition and vote communist when they can’t even get students to write an essay without AI

A good example of how politics often leads to second-best outcomes (at best). Political compromise means policy outcomes are sub-optimal (and sometimes worse than doing nothing). In this case either/or is /probably/ better than nothing, but this idea has problems. finance.yahoo.com/economy/poli...

finance.yahoo.comMark Cuban wants to solve wealth inequality by making employers choose between paying higher taxes or giving every member of staff company stock“If we continue to see growing disparity in income, you risk unrest and further division, which is the most expensive tax on every business.”

First, it's probably not administrative feasible. How do we know what wages would have been absent the policy? Second, while higher wages would probably help, taxes serve multiple purposes. Wages still need higher taxes to fund public and quasi-public goods, and to reduce the budget deficit.

I'm pretty sure this is what people think when they see my code as well.

Stephen Wild@stephenjwild.bsky.social

An interesting thing at the start of the COVID pandemic occurred when Ferguson and compatriots released their code for their infection models. Professional programmers were HORRIFIED. Scientists were like, "Yeah, it runs. So what? Who cares? At least you have it." There's a lesson in that.

4% of those polled apparently can't make up their minds when it's their turn to place an order at McDonald's.

If you have enough money that you can blow $100,000,000 on avoiding taxes, you have enough money to pay $100,000,000 *on* taxes that will help your fellow citizens, you self-centered prick.

More lies and bullshit. I've gotten every vaccine for my kids on the schedules that existed for decades, including multiple injections in a single visit. At no point was a volume even 0.01x the size of a soda bottle injected into my infant children.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "At one year, you should have 5 separate visits for vaccines rather than getting them all in the same day. I've seen proof of where they have a vaccination thing that looks like the size of a bottle of soda and pour it into a little child's body."

Clearly Oregon must tariff Washington to force an end to these wildfires.

Talarico’s argument is simple: Stop treating marijuana like a crime. Legalize it. Regulate it. Tax it. Stop wasting police resources on low-level marijuana offenses. Clear the records of people whose lives have been derailed by nonviolent marijuana convictions.
