Happy Anniversary to Shining Force 2! 🎂🥳🎉 Released on the Sega Genesis in North America on this day in 1994, this classic strategy RPG gave us an awesome cast of playable characters and epic battles. Is Shining Force 2 one of your favorites?

At least for me, when physical resolution is large enough, the artifacts from non-integer scaling aren't noticeable enough to go with int scaling + borders instead (though aspect ratio must be preserved). And nowadays I usually enjoy adding a CRT filter as well to smooth it out a bit.

Pixel art games keep shipping at 320x180 and then letting players stretch it to 4K. Crisp scaling is fine, but I think a lot of the charm lives in the pixels you can't see change. Do you play pixel games at integer scale only? #pixelart #indiegames

This week I dived into adding some experimental mouse support. Not entirely finished yet, but made some good progress! #coilbound #coilboundgame #indiegame #screenshotsaturday

A perfectly placed pixel can make all the difference sometimes 👩‍⚖️😳🥷🔮

The poison orb is always in the last room you checked. The ninja's face peeking over that purple mask is doing a lot of judging for three pixels of eyes.

The Elder Scrolls Travels: Shadowkey (2004) | action RPG | N-Gage | Vir2L Studios Nokia's N-Gage got a taste of Bethesda's Elder Scrolls taking place before Arena during the final years of Jagar Tharn's masquerade as Tamriel's emperor with a pocket-sized chapter of first-person adventure!

One aspect regarding choice of dev-tools that I've thought about a lot is how much the estimated efforts are to keep an application in a working condition 10 years or more from now. They are of course only estimates, but depending on factors can be more or less qualified.

Lufia 2 is one of my favourite games for the SNES! The Ancient Cave mini-game is basically the first roguelike I ever played. Wouldn’t mind some adjustments for the first game though, like the encounter rate.

🔥 Announcing Lufia 1 and 2 the Sinistrals Saga 🔥 Two classic JRPGs from the golden age of the SNES return to modern platforms in one wonderous collection 🥳 🎉 Coming soon to modern platforms! From @Taito Wishlist today! 😍 Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/4027620/...

I try to use Windows as little as possible, but still have it for making builds / platform testing. It's kind of terrible that it won't allow me to turn it off without installing updates (which will risk breaking my build system). Patiently waiting for that year of the Linux Desktop..

Today I put in a solid 6h gameplay testing session of Coilbound and I can definitely say I felt the hook. The main thing dragging it down was food shortages, so that will be ajusted. Kind of amazed though, and very happy that time just disappeared while playing 👌

TODAY’S THE DAY! Roguecraft DX is officially launching on Steam TODAY! The dungeon of Mordecoom awaits. The monsters are hungry. The potions are questionable.  7:30 AM EST

Having recently replayed Dark Souls 1 and started DS 3, I was reminded that the parry-mechanic in the latter is so bad that it's basically broken. The reason for this change seems to have been PvP balancing which is fair, but too bad PvE got dragged down with it.

It's an interesting tradeoff with a probable deciding factor that keeping two separate systems would be too inconsistent for a number of reasons. Curious about how they did it in Elden Ring because as I remember it now it worked a lot better in comparison.

The game is coming together. Almost feature complete. Added some new enemies like the Skeleton Wizard that swaps position with the player if it brings him closer to a monster. #screenshotsaturday #indiedev #gamedev #ゲーム制作

About a year ago I played the demo for Destiny Spire which is now releasing in 6 days!

Played through the demo of Destiny Spire by @r1kgames.bsky.social. It’s a classic retro styled JRPG with pixelart and chiptune soundtrack with customisable party. The demo took about 2h to complete and was really enjoyable, check it out here store.steampowered.com/app/3369150/... #minireview

The game has released! #ruinsOfCalaworm is a lovingly rework from an obscure early 90s German Dungeon Crawler. Think #roguelike but earlier: no ranged, no builds, few stats, deceptively simple. Just You and then Dungeon, bumping into Witches and Eldritch Horrors. --> Get it on @itch.io (Link in Bio)

The most interesting thing about the Terranigma announcement is to see how large the variation of expectations are. Both from the viewpoint of devs and players. I played it back in the 90's and enjoyed it a lot, but I can also say that it has some room for improvement, especially its later half.

I often view games I played a long time ago as historical documents, so personally I'm usually all for the original experience, but having replayed Terranigma just last year I can safely say that some modifications would be justifiable. What do you hope to see in the new version?

I started playing Shining Force II yesterday, and initial reaction is that they have managed to smooth out a lot of jank that the original had, and it generally feels a lot more snappy. Also nice to see some item management QoL features, though in-game item descriptions are still sorely missed..

I completed Shining Force tonight, such a great game despite a bit of jank and missing QoL features. I first tried it 30 years ago but took a while until I got hooked 😅. Looking forward to try the sequel, but might check out some other old SRPGs before that.
