The trailer for the new Baywatch hits a lot of nostalgia buttons for me! That theme song! I caught myself doubting that any of those lifeguards could actually save my life, but then I remembered that it didn't bother me the first time around. 😄

I just finished reading the relaunched LSH, and you know what? It feels like the future! It is the FUTURE. It borrows a lot from space opera, and I am here for it. There is characterization and different worlds, but familiarity too. Like to real life, not past versions. What a great start.

Jackets!!! I'm kinda digging this vibe!

Announcing: LEGION OF SUPERHEROES A new ongoing series and fresh start for the future’s star-spanning super-teens. Catch the first issue when it launches this September. Coming to you from myself, @joshuawilliamson.bsky.social , @tamrabonvillain.bsky.social , and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou!

I randomly ran across a mention of Warren Ellis' Global Frequency limited series, so I dug up a copy for a re-read. A few issues in, I had no memory of any of these stories! But on the plus side -- it was like reading for the first time. That 2000s grittiness doesn't feel that gritty now!

Came across this from Geoff Johns and Bryan Hitch - Redcoat (2024). Reads like a B-movie (in a good way) with a bunch of action, although a little thin on character. I think I like the alternate history angle more than the actual story. But it's pretty fun. Gorgeous art like always from Hitch.

What I don't understand is how the guy can wear the same thing for all that time! They can't be the same articles of clothing. So does he find tailors to custom make new period clothes all the time? In either case, whyyyy??

Oh my gosh, you guys. Do you remember Shogun Warriors? I loved this comic so much when I was kid. I ran across it again this weekend, and have started reading the back issues. Are you not excited by these covers??? So much giant robot ACTION!

As gifts to myself, I picked up the Legion's animated series and dvds for Justice League Action! Both are super fun. In particular, despite being for kids, I loved the vibe of JLAction. Straightforward adventures, jokes, and lots of character!

Queens of Mystery has been on my list for a long while. It was a delight! I had thought it was in the vein of nosy aunts butting in on police investigations, but it's lots more cozier than that. It's got a storybook quality (helped by some gentle narration) that is just perfect for October weather.

The HUNTR/X singers performed Golden live last night, and it was AWESOME. Such a great job by these women, and I'm so happy for their success! I really do hope this revs up their careers, because individually, each of their musical styles are so different from the movie's songs. Such a joy to watch!

So that's it -- I finished the last book of the Expanse. Wish there were more, but we did get a tv show out of it. And some novellas and comic books. But I love the books the best. So many characters we got to know, wondering who was going to make it, what was going to happen... What a great read!

Yikes, this was really tough to see. Especially in light of his recent Grand Slams where he also went out with injuries. This guy is so great to watch, so I hope there's more in the tank.

oh, Sunrise on the Reaping turned out to be tragic and heartbreaking and brutal. I didn't think we really needed to flesh out Haymitch's backstory, but I was surprised how relevant to real life it was. (The number of characters we already know is kind of jarring, though.)

I saw there was a new (to me) edition of the audiobooks read by Tatiana Maslany, so I listened to Catching Fire on a flight last week. She really brought Katniss to life! And in a different way than Jennifer Lawrence. Highly recommend! Coincidentally, there's a new Hunger Games book out now

The French Open Men's Championship had me glued to my seat all morning, and I had other things to do today! I don't think the highlights could capture the tension, so I'm glad I watched the whole thing. Definitely worth missing a trip to the bakery and leg day at the gym.

Alexander Bublik has been playing some great and fun tennis this summer, culminating in an expected loss yesterday to the world #1 at the French Open. I have really been enjoying him this tourney, getting wins over two top 10 players -- the match against Draper was a nail-biter, and so satisfying!

Season 2 stuck the landing. Finished over the holiday weekend, and have been thinking about it all week. Andor overall had genuine thrills, and so many of the characters really grabbed on and didn't let go. It's like an adult version of how I felt with the original trilogy as a kid. What an impact.
