Throughout my life, my mom has found 4-leaf clovers on a wish. I walk regularly and occasionally looked, but never found one - until today while waiting for my car to be serviced, in a grassy area between a golf course and the dealership. I am asking it to do a lot, including for the election.

This describes the AI companys’ “fears.” They are creating the framework that will allow them to *avoid* current and future accountability for their choices in the design of AI. They decide which actionable tools, vacuums or weapons or anything really, to attach to their models.

Consumer complaints against financial companies have skyrocketed over the past three years. How is Trump responding? By gutting budget and staffing for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau — and stopping the agency from publishing consumer complaints.

The powerful forces trying to dominate our country want us to fall into cynicism. That way, they win everything — and they'll be able to take it all without the rest of us putting up a fight. If you are worried about the future, you are not alone. I am too. But please do not fall into cynicism.

The Fed is a creature of Congress and Congress is the source of its independence. With Warsh, it will be more important for more of us to understand the Fed and hold Congress accountable if Warsh does Trump’s bidding and dismantles the final damper on inflation. An easy-to-digest primer -

Powell’s term ended but he will stay on, Warsh will be sworn in as Chair of the Fed. The latter is a significant change but has been buried in the news by the China Summit. The Fed affects all of us every day. We can’t afford the inflation that will pile on if Warsh does trump’s bidding.

Sean Duffy’s reality series is getting slammed for all of the obvious reasons, but don’t look past the fact that his show is being sponsored by companies his department oversees and regulates. In other words, it’s not just a political mess, it’s also an ethical one. www.ms.now/rachel-maddo...

I thought this was The Onion. Building a 🏠 with Pulte is disappointing as is without also assuming the servile role of caretaking an AI’s power source. Bill Pulte gave up his seat on the builder’s board to join Trump’s admin over the FHFA-doesn’t mean he doesn’t retain financial interest.😖

Announcing: Platypus Economics — a Substack, YouTube channel, and podcast built around one idea: Economics is one of the most useful, surprising, and weirdly beautiful subjects in the world. It belongs to everyone — not just the people who happened to take it in college. 🧵

As I read this, I imagine a time in the future 🙏 when our right-left division has resolved to shared common goals of, say, not burning the Earth up, but we then divide along the lines of whether AI is a friend, to be trusted, etc. Some AI is amazing, no AI can be a true “friend.”

What frightens me most are the hints that he will reform the Federal Reserve according to Trump’s vision, another organizational loss that will take decades if it can be fixed. Bottom line - the Fed is a creature of Congress - getting Republicans out of Congress in Nov is critical for this, too.
