Not a big fan of conspiracy theories, but it seems increasingly likely that there are some people at the top of the BBC who want Farage to become PM.

Alex Andreou@sturdyalex.bsky.social

BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet. WHY

So when Spiked front “Our Fight” went to Cable St (with the bizarre slogan “We will pass”), it wasn’t wrong to say they were on the fascist side. If you “fight” antisemitism just to attack Muslims & the left (while hanging out with actual Nazis) you’re not actually meaningfully against antisemitism.

Reform UK Oxford will host a talk in November criticising "DEI" by the Nathan Cofnas, who describes his belief in + commitment to biological racism as "race realism", writing "in a meritocracy, blacks would disappear from almost all high-profile positions outside of sports and entertainment”.

He's stuck in a reality TV format. You got to stay in character.

This is just strange behavior, even from a dementia patient. Trump stops and waves. The camera zooms out to reveal that there’s nobody in the direction he’s waving. Apparently, he’s waving to the ghost of Lindsey Graham.

think there's just something so grotesquely English about James Acaster that I just can't be going along with it, ultimately every French person will have their limit and somehow he's mine, James Acaster is simply too English for my continental constitution

You’ve seen stutter step penalties but how about this stutter walk penalty in the Caribbean Cup semifinal?

I went to Oudh. It's great and deserves all the good reviews, but if you ever go, order less than you think you need. Schlepping your body towards London Bridge while in a food coma is no fun. Nobody will come and airlift you.

Remember when they had the idea to feed dead cows to other cows? That went rather well, didn't it.

Alice Roberts@profaliceroberts.bsky.social

I’m sorry, what?! “Salmon are carnivores and eat other fish in the wild, so feeding them chicken is entirely natural,” said an executive at a major salmon-feed producer.” Feeding them humans would be just as “natural” BTW. www.ft.com/content/8f1e...

When Ukraine does not stop fighting Russia then Trump will turn around and blame Europeans and Canadians for supposedly sabotaging his party's chances of winning the mid-terms. The word of the US government is not worth a bowl of spit for the foreseeable future

Alexander Clarkson@aphclarkson.bsky.social

I doubt Starlink limitations will severely hamper Ukraine's mid-strike campaign as planners in Kyiv have not trusted the US for a while. From an EU/UK angle I'd worry more about how unreliable US leaders could tamper with basic intel and air defence systems Europe and Canada use

Yeah, great. If your technology breaks things, the affected people should be able to take legal action. I can understand why that would be problematic for companies that are less profitable than WinRAR, but there are reasons why people can't transport TNT around London in an open container.

Jenrick is a Nazi. There is no difference between this rhetoric and what the Nazis said.

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)@sundersays.bsky.social

Robert Jenrick for Reform says that Royal Marines using "lethal force" on small boats could end it in days. "Deploy the Royal Marines into the Channel. If they need to use lethal force then they'll be able to do so. I think the problem would come to an end within a matter of days."

No mate, the Greens let the lunatics who came for the oven, take the whole room. This was preventable. Instead, the party allowed a few self-righteous clowns to nuke the only serious left-wing opposition party. Thanks for nothing.

Owen Jones@owenjones.bsky.social

At times like this, the mask really comes off the British media. There is no pretence - at all - about their impartiality or objectivity towards the Green Party. It is a blatant naked partisan cross-media assault against the Greens.

A very good piece of reporting. What it makes clear is the yawning gap that is already opening up between Burnham's stated ambitions and the political capacity of the teams he has put in place to help him actually realise them. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

There was a time when I thought it would be an amazing opportunity to reconnect the Labour Party with its social democratic roots. Then the burners came. There was a time when I hoped that a left-wing opposition party would improve this country's direction, but the burners came again.

Toxic nostalgia for the masses, tax dodging for the upper classes. They're selling the dream of a pastiche England, a country that never existed outside of various TV series and bad literature, to people who're afraid of the future.
