I love how Trump, Vance and Musk style themselves defenders of free speech, while simultaneously banning government agencies from mentioning climate change or diversity (inc biodiversity!), equity and inclusion, or even possessing maps which show the Gulf of Mexico. Torquemadas the lot of them.

picture, it acts like smoke and mirrors to obscure the overall reality. Ie "it's only a pause" "don't take him seriously" (this reminds me so much of people who tell victims of abuse "you just misunderstand the person/we don't take you or your needs seriously, you are irrelevant". 🧵3

These apologists inevitably fall back on tactics including gaslighting, abuse enabling and outright cognitive dysfunction as well as "sandboxing". Frequently you will see them isolate some minor point and explain why this is harmless or misunderstood, but by isolating this point from the overall 🧵2

One of the surest signs you are dealing with evil people is when their acts require significant numbers of people exercising extraordinary amounts of time and energy to create convoluted apologetics to defend the acts of said person. 🧵 1

All this "looking for corruption" by president Musk and his bootlicker Trump makes me wonder how much corruption we would find in their lives and businesses...

Is it just me or has WIRED been dogwalking the rest of the media on this story

The Trump administration & supporters are excited about their "massive deportation plan". I wonder if any of them have figured out the (clearly going 2b significant) cost economically & who will pay for it? 1. Loss of cheap labour 2. Massive increase in personel 3. Transport costs (staff & aliens)

The issue is more complex. 1. X uses all your stuff for AI (privacy violating). 2. It's full of dubious bots that can now STILL ACCESS YOUR ACCOUNT even if blocked. The G&M seems to think ppl should sacrifice this for the dubious unlikelihood of being an effective counter in the X echo chamber

Opinion - The problem with Bluesky: It won’t broaden our horizons: In the wake of Donald Trump’s election win, the social-media platform has enjoyed a surge of new users looking for an alternative to Elon Musk’s X. But will it be useful, if it just creates an echo chamber for the left?

Wonder which cabinet post Putin will be given. I mean, he is the defacto president of America but they need to put his face somewhere officially

Governments and powerful figures threatening journalists and media outlets with costly legal battles and bankruptcy is a common tactic against press freedom in repressive countries. The press freedom fire is at our door step now. www.cjr.org/the_trump_re...
