This is literally enough to make me want to quit gamedev and pivot to getting a different job that doesn't involve US companies who can't fucking do shit and will screw me over tax-wise. Fuck this shit man.

Like, I don't want to release Mym's Sword if I have to deal with US withholding taxes, and neither Steam nor @itch.io will respond to/help with my request to update my tax info, take a W8-BEN, etc. So what do I do? Not accept payments for my games? Starve in the meantime??

I have the documents to prove I renounced!! I have a signed W8-BEN!! I can literally give you people all the info you need, you just have to update me from a US citizen to a Canadian!!! Fuck!!!

Valve can suck my nuts wrt taxes. What do you mean you want me to MAIL paper documents so you can send them to your tax vendor? I have pdf versions of all the documents, surely I could send you those and not waste weeks to months of everyone's time WAITING for SNAIL MAIL.

My one issue is, afaik, that I can't submit a document via their auto-tax-info thing. Why does Steam support not let you send .pdf documents in their support threads? Why can't I just EMAIL somebody the documents and have them send THOSE to the tax vendor? Am I insane??

New type of guy discovered: was looking at my old hs yearbooks and thought to try to reach out to a friend who I haven't talked to in ages. Lo and behold, they (nonbinary now!!) only use LinkedIn for social media!! Truly wild stuff

It’s funny how the more work I try to do to be secure and not spiral in anxiety, the harder it feels to resist those feelings! But I think being able to recognize when I’m being unrealistic/insecure is a step in and of itself, so maybe I am making progress

It’s also interesting how much of the work seems to be down to “recognize the feeling, and let it go,” which for an overthinker like me is crazy. That and/or practicing mindfulness/grounding.
