Today I had a fire to put out at work and I was so very happy that I had something meaningful to do

I used to have a phone shortcut for an ASCII shrug but for the last few years I just end up googling "shruggie" whenever I need it and plaintext-pasting from the Atlantic title article about it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My take on the whole recent Oppenheimer porn tiktok drama is that if people have privately struggled with porn being a problem in their relationship and they found a way to manage it that works for them as a couple, good for them? And that's about all that needs to be said

Like... we have no idea how many blow-up fights or rough nights or hurt feelings have come up for that couple around this and maybe if they have system that works to manage that, no further judgment needed? bleh¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Carnival Row is so much better than I ever expected from a "steampunk-flavored show about Faeries" Orlando killin' it--the drama and writing are great, also significantly more mature, serious, and darker than anticipated

How nerdy is it to put a sharp-edged fantasy knife replica in my kitchen just to cut cheese and maybe vegetables with

1/ Stuck-threading on BSKY because it feels somehow lower risk than threading elsewhere, and also I'm aware that threading like I do on Twitter might blow up feeds so I'll try to keep it short... But I feel stuck and it's frustrating.

10/ In some ways, not having enough to do even 4 months after mom passed is almost _harder_ than if I was really busy with work. I have way too much time to reflect rn. But not enough focus/energy to productively invest in starting up something new. I do feel obligated to be _available_ to work.

11/ This is mostly complaining, which I feel awkward about. I will eventually do something about this or something will change. But... sigh. I just want to feel productively distracted right now with something helpful for our business's bottom line.

8/ I do like and trust my management; I believe them when they say stuff is coming and the timing is uncertain. I know why it's taking a while and can see that I'm not the only one in this position. I just want to be building again, though.

9/ Frustrated. I wish I could either figure out something to write or do on my own time that I really believed in (which is cruxy/stuckness for my personal projects since mom got sick and died), or could get a formal assignment through work. Arrgh.

6/ In an ideal world, work would get much busier and I'd get to go build stuff with a team like I wanted when I took this job... I've been patiently waiting and champing at the bit for months on that. But no clue when it's going to happen. This is what I want.

7/ In the meantime, I don't know what to do with myself in this weird limbo of employed but without any strong focus or project area and unable to get myself to a place where I can focus enough on something else to engage with it. I don't like it, not comfy. Not sure what move to make.

4/ But it is frustrating bc I took this job in the first place so I could build things with a team, and I am very much not able to build right now for complicated resourcing reasons--no team yet, no team in sight. :/ I'm doing good R&D work, but kinda in a vacuum.

5/ So I'm in this position where I don't feel like I can start something new, don't really want to look for a new job, don't feel focused/motivated enough to solve the writing problem, and don't know how to get myself unstuck.

2/ I haven't written essays, books, or tweet threads recently because I've been stuck on this idea that I don't really know why I'm writing or who I want to read it, while at the same time feeling worried that the wrong person could read it and this would create annoying problems for me.

3/ Unfortunately, writing is one of my primary outlets for both business ideas and blowing off steam. This is compounded by a somewhat frustrating work situation. I am comfortably employed and grateful to be employed rn. I am also wildly under-utilized atm. Can't expand while staying anon.

In spite of spending almost as much time struggling with optimization settings as playing the game... Baldur's Gate 3 is an incredible work of staggering genius and you need to play it I'm already planning 2nd, 3rd, 4th playthroughs

To be clear, my issue turned out to be "your dock isn't working for stupid reasons that appear to only be fixed by reinstalling the default laptop Iris XE driver for unknown reasons... it will continue to crash every time you play BG3 and require another repair operation"

I'm going to lose my mind if I read one more hardware troubleshooting thread that confidently asserts that the issue is "most likely" a loose cord or that I just need to unplug and replug this is never my issue

Why are hardware issues always so dumb and so rarely fixed by anything the help articles recommend It's always a solve from some guy on reddit from 2 years ago with an obscure registry hack out of left field that solves the problem It's never a loose cord

Every time I run into TB3 issues with this dock I'm reminded that Dell docks are garbage and there are reams of threads about this and I think about replacing it, and then I just sigh and do some driver shenanigans and forget about it till next time

I wish I could get into action-combat RPGs Seems like whole classes of very cool games would open up for me, but I just don't find it very rewarding I'm watching first looks at Wayfinders and I'm just like... eh

Might be more motivated to check it out once it's on Xbox Why is it so hard for games to get on Xbox, c'mon guys Game Pass is cool af but I'm kinda regretting how many games I see that are like "PC and PS4... xbox later"

My friend, who had no cats and wasn’t fond, went to Ras Al Khaimah last year and the cat on the left, a dumped stray, jumped on him and that was that. He brought him back to Dubai. He’s just sent me this. He’s rescued another. He’s now cat crazy. ❤️

Having absolutely wild and vivid dreams the last few nights on the nicotine patch--it's like being a teenager again with how strong they are Detailed, in-depth plotlines, fully realized dream characters... I'm tempted to keep some patches around for dream work

The BG3 genitalia options clearly meant well but uh... I'm not sure I need that level of realism in my fantasy RPG videogame
