I know there’s so much worse going on, but this just kinda hurt on a personal level. I have loved Catherine O’Hara my whole life. This was one of my favorite roles she did - I even dressed as Lydia this past Halloween. It’s just an extra thorn.

“I don't want to be considered a hero. Imagine young people would grow up with the feeling that you have to be a hero to do your human duty. I am afraid nobody would ever help other people, because who is a hero? I was not. I was just an ordinary housewife and secretary.”

New Superman movie was pretty decent, but there was some pretty unbelievable plot devices in it such as the American Media using journalism to fight a power man billionaire, and said powerful billionaire facing justice at the end for his crimes.

I’ve been listening to one of my favorite Anime soundtracks recently. Wolf’s Rain was such a weird ass show that just hit all the right buttons for me, and Yoko Kano’s soundtrack is just perfect for it. I still waltz in the kitchen to Valse De La Lune.

Had an incredible night of 1960’s surf rock and cosmic horror in Belmont Ma with Green Door Labs. Their Cthulhu Luau was as much fun as Club Drosselmeyer. I always get a kick out of being able to interact as a fictionalized version of myself- the librarian.

So on Friday I have the honor of speaking in front of the Japanese consulate-general about the history and influence of anime in the USA. Would it be entirely uncouth to end with “And in conclusion, my country is a dumpster fire being raped by fascists. I want out.” Yeah probably.

Been listening to a lot of Red Hot Chili Peppers lately, especially stuff off one hot minute which was a huge album to me in my late teens. Good lord “My Friends” hits different at 47 than at 18. And it hard on me back then….

Today I am hosting a Spring Dinner for the witches and weirdos in my life. That’s the only resurrection I need: the resurrection of my faith in human beings. And it happens every time I see the folks I love.

“Any place, every place where there's hate, where there's prejudice, where there's bigotry. He's alive. He's alive so long as these evils exist. …He's alive because through these things we keep him alive.” -Rod Sterling, The Twilight Zone. “He’s Alive”

As a lover of novelty tarot decks, the fact that there is no Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Deck is a crime. The four turtles match the four suites perfectly, and so many characters work so well in the major arcana.

This is entirely silly but I had a yearly follow up at my cardiologist office today. On my way out I got a glance at my record on the computer on the room. It starts “Sarah is a very pleasant 47 year old” It was nice to see.

One of the things I hate about my brain is that it’s extremely hard for me not to be pessimistic. I generally keep it to myself because who wants to be that guy, but I can’t help but assume the worst. The other thing I hate is how much of the time I’m right about the things I’m pessimistic about.

Highlights of the talk yesterday: Awesome nerdy family No Terfs and No red hats in the audience. During the discussion, we all disagreed sometimes in reasonable. And often starting with “I totally get people loves this, and that’s awesome, but I felt different” type statements. It was awesome.

And Dodge has announced they will reinstate funding to libraries that promote “patriotic values” aka kiss trumps ass, hang POC and LGBTQ+ patrons out to dry, and hide anything that doesn’t paint the USA as a glorious savior. By the playbook.

“Sonderling attested “….We will revitalize IMLS and restore focus on patriotism, ensuring we preserve our country’s core values, promote American exceptionalism, and cultivate love of country in future generations.”

So considering that a LOT of guests from other countries aren’t going to feel comfy traveling to the USA for con appearances, let me just remind everyone I am a Librarian who has published professionally (not as much as I’d like) and who has lectured on educational pop culture for over 20 years.

The Day The Earth Blew Up was a modern spin on a lot of classic Loony Tunes traditions. Lots of Easter eggs for classic animation fans, horror fans, and sci fi fans. Seeing it in the theater with other folks also adds to the experience. Highly recommend.

So one of the things I have up with Facebook is the fun postings I used to do with urban myth, and modern legend. (UFOs, ghosts, cryptid critters, word stories). I did them occasionally and then every day through October. I haven’t found another option to continue until……

I checked. This is accurate. I sent a message to NPR to ask them to cover this and see if anyone else who is not a straight white man is also being erased and insulted. No idea if they will, but keep passing this around.

This is blood-boiling. Charles Rogers was awarded the Medal of Honor in Vietnam after being wounded three times leading the defense of a position. Google his name and the entry below comes up. When you click, you'll see the page has been deleted and the URL changed to include "DEI medal."

The driving philosophy of the Trump administration is white male supremacy. It’s not just that they don’t believe in bigotry or prejudice or racism, but if you’re anything but a straight white man, your contributions are false, awarded to you because of your identity, and must be deleted.

For everyone saying “But Massachusetts is blue. It’s safe.” This happened right here.

Right now in America 🇺🇸 Imagine being violently interrogated at the airport for no reason. You’re stripped naked, forced in cold showers, not allowed to sleep, and denied medication. This happened here for no reason. The actions of this administration must be stopped. www.wgbh.org/news/local/2...

US govt has asked Denmark if they can export eggs as Americans face surging egg prices. The request coincides with a raft of new US tariffs on countries, including in Europe -- and also threatened economic sanctions unless Denmark hands over control of Greenland www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

My Amazon account is closed finally. Between dropping this, and closing my Facebook and Twitter accounts I have felt a little bit satisfied. I only kept Amazon to order things for work, but I don’t even need it for that anymore. Obviously your mileage may vary but if you can, i recommend it.

The show must go on.

Freddie Mercury didn't go into the studio and nail the vocals for "The Show Must Go On" in one take while dying of AIDS for you to despair and give up now. Take the time you need, but then get up and get back out there. The show must go on.
