Over the moon to win the Regional Press Awards Specialist Journalist of the Year award. Very grateful for all the people who trust me with their stories and the colleagues who support me along the way

Today the @liverpoolecho.co.uk officially joins the campaign for Gabe’s Law - which is seeking to increase the safety and security around multi-storey car parks to prevent more people falling to their deaths The campaign is named after 15-year-old Gabriel Santer who tragically died in 2020

I expect lots of lower level staff and reporters will face the brunt of this while Allister Heath writes columns about how anyone trying to resist a takeover by our AI overlords is suffering from the woke brain disease

Could not agree more. I’ve previously found his ubiquitousness a bit irritating but clearly haven’t paid enough attention. He is such good fun.

The Diplomat remains one of the most exciting, tense and downright fun shows on TV. Even its daft bits are endlessly enthralling. Great entertainment.

Went to see this guy talk last night. Utterly captivating, hopeful, inspiring. Yes it makes you sad for what came after him, but as he kept saying, things can change and they can be better again.

Reform UK's St Helens council leader has been forced to backtrack after saying the "jury was out" on whether his council would commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day. He has since confirmed the council will mark it. This came after he announced the council wouldn't be celebrating Black History Month

I do find this country mad. Anyone can see that social care is in a state of devastating crisis in this country and that it is the key source of the NHS crisis as well. There is no feasible way to solve it without everyone contributing. Burnham is honest about that and is already getting pelters.

And yes the wealthy should contribute more and they would under such a system, but it has to be similar to the NHS for it to work sustainably

Absolutely fascinating to see Laura Kuenssberg interviewing Burnham, flailing to adjust her stance to a politician with a moral argument and a positive message, who stands up for his policies and answers her questions clearly. She is getting so agitated at him not playing the game by the 'rules'.

Exclusive: I asked Andy Burnham about the gangs of masked thugs marauding around parts of our country and asked if he and his government should be doing more to call out their actions He called them ‘poisonous’ amongst other strong words. His condemnation was unequivocal. Full story here 👇

Andy Burnham was born in Liverpool. His ancestors first arrived here from Ireland in the 1800s He returns this weekend as Prime Minister, ready to deliver the biggest speech of his life at Labour Party Conference I joined him on the Mersey Ferry today and asked how this city has shaped him

Amazing this needs saying, but on this website it clearly does.

‘This is playing into his hands’/‘this will allow him to play the martyr card’/‘this will help with his fundraising’ are all really bad takes. Criminals should be arrested and charged with crimes.

Can anyone explain to me why this article doesn't mention anywhere that small boat crossings are down 42% from last year? That doesn't mean it's not an issue 781 people arrived in one day. But it seems like the sort of context a reputable news source might mention www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

So that guy who live streamed himself trying to drown someone by stabbing their boat with a knife and who has been continually blocking ports and intimidating communities with a band of masked thugs. He’s surely just going to be arrested right? Right?

Went to hospital today. Some who followed me on the other place might remember I had a traumatic eye injury (retinal detachment) a few years ago. I had some worrying symptoms today but thankfully all ok. It was a busy day in A&E and I ended up waiting 5 hours, but this is far from a complaint…

Anyway glad to say after a nervous wait, my eye is ok. I mean it will never be great after what happened previously but for now I still have some sight in it. How lucky was I to be able to go to my local hospital and get that expert analysis from brilliant experts free of charge?

The NHS is the greatest thing this country has dreamt up and delivered, I don’t think the politicians of today would have the courage or the fortitude to create it. We must protect it at all costs from the vultures who would love nothing more than to break it up and sell it off. Anyway that’s me.

As always it just makes a total mockery of the rhetoric we increasingly see being allowed to spread around our country about the contribution of immigrants. Our NHS and social care sectors would simply fall apart without those who come here to provide these essential and expert services…

It honestly makes me furious and so sad to imagine how some of these guys must feel when they see politicians, media outlets and big chunks of the public spreading such vile messaging about the contribution of immigrants to our national life. I saw that contribution today, millions see it every day

…it’s the opposite. I was just in awe of the staff as they raced around dealing with a huge volume of patients with efficiency, professionalism & kindness. We were regularly updated with how long waits were & reasons behind this - nurses, doctors and others working in harmony to keep things running

Another thing you can’t help but notice when interacting with the NHS is just how many of these brilliant professionals are of different nationalities. Today I was seen by a Doctor and a nurse from different nations and they were just brilliant….

This is simply far-right terrorism. And right now it’s being done with impunity.

Worrying scenes in the Channel today, for all interested in asylum policy and maritime tactics. A small boat from Normandy spent more than 30 hours at sea. Those on board now on their 2nd rescue vessel as Border Force forced to play cat and mouse with far-right activists who have their own boat.

I don't think we disdain the center-right enough. First, they rode nativist populist tigers to power to get their tax cuts and deregulation; Then, they lost control of their own parties to those tigers; Now, they sit in lucrative jobs as columnists writing about how it's all the left's fault.

But more of this sort of thing from ministers please
