While it's not the sort of stuff that gets covered as part of the usual A-Level (for obvious reasons, I suppose!), it can make an interesting research project and it's all part of developing a critical media literacy about the different forms of language and communication we see around us.

We've been having a nice long summer break but we should be back soon enough with some new episodes. Meanwhile, have a look back through what we did in the last academic year in episodes 75-87!

If you referenced something in an an exam answer or in your NEA that you heard on the pod - the work of a linguist we featured or interviewed, or anything else -we'd love to hear.

As you might imagine, we talk about swearing so we have to swear. There's at least 1 C-bomb, a couple of F-bombs, a f*cknugget or two, a w*nker, a few sh*its and sh*tes and even a lesser-spotted gold-plated sh*tgibbon.

New episode is out: an interview with Dr Rob Topinka about digital rhetoric, the power of persuasion online & why language and politics are so intertwined. It's a good one if you're thinking of language investigations on political language. #linguistics spotifycreators-web.app.link/e/fTKWDtxIU2b

New epsiode up tomorrow. It's an interview with Dr Daria Bahtina along with a Lang in the News segment. They're both about 'Gen Z slang', if there is such a thing anyway, and the nature of fast-changing lexical trends.

It's been a busy time for recording and we've got a new interview to do this morning. Watch out for episodes coming soon with Daria Bahtina on 'Gen Z slang', Rob Topinka on digital rhetoric & extremist language, and Chris Montgomery on regional swearing!

We've got a brand new episode out today: an interview with Dr Sarah Hopkyns from University of St Andrews on English in the Gulf. It's another episode that's been led by student interest, this time it's Oli, an A Level student at the Dubai British School. spotifycreators-web.app.link/e/3Sb65KDdv1b
