The US federal government was actually less wasteful than most big companies and other large organizations, not least because government had an amazing asset: highly experienced, educated, knowledgeable, talented people choosing public service when they could make a lot more in the private sector.
what is fascinating to me is the number of people whose “knowledge” of government appears to just be an accumulation of cliches and stereotypes + an inchoate sense that if something is big and costly then it must necessarily be “wasteful”

@fetterman.senate.gov I am one of your constituents as a resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. I hope we can count on you as a NO vote on the absolutely ridiculous SAVE act if/when it comes up for a vote in the Senate. This will disenfranchise so many voters.
@booker.senate.gov Just made a reference to Schoolhouse Rock -- I'm Just a Bill. Yeah, he's one of my generation.
Of all the days that mlbtv has issues... Opening Day. Nice job, guys.
So where I work we've been going through a progressive tightening of network security to ensure that data which shouldn't be shared doesn't get shared. Data privacy and security is a common thread in a lot of the world. Meanwhile we have a billionaire just tossing private data around without a care.
Representatives from Elon Musk’s U.S. DOGE Service have fed sensitive data from across the Education Department into artificial intelligence software to probe the agency’s programs and spending, according to two people with knowledge of the DOGE team’s actions.
@safety.bsky.app Not sure if this is in your wheelhouse but is there any way we can get 2fa using TOTP (aka Google Authenticator) or even passkey logins?
I'm glad I'm following @theonion.com. It's nice to have something give me a chuckle as I doomscroll my newsfeed.
You are up to date.
