I'll be the first to admit it's a real failure of the judiciary that after six years of the Trump Administration, Judges aren't moving straight to contempt hearings.

Democracy Docket@democracydocket.com

UPDATE: The Trump administration apologized to a judge after DHS’ taxpayer-funded Trump ads aired in hundreds of ad spots after she blocked them. The excuse: DHS’ lawyers missed the email. The judge had flagged that the $20 million for the ads was approved in under two hours.

I feel it's important to point out — to the extent the Death Arch is a real thing and not some insane fever dream — it's slated to be built in Arlington, Virginia, not Washington, D.C., next to Arlington National Cemetery. The snipers would have line of sight to about 400,000 graves. Wait...

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Beyond parody: "At the strong request of the Military, and for National Security purposes, I have agreed to convert the magnificent Triumphal Arch, into a top grade Military Complex/Triumphal Arch, to house, store, and have the rapid ability to use large numbers of drones, plus Snipers..."

I hate that this is correct.

Guaranteed: 1) Black girls will be harassed and demanded to be tested over and over again regardless of how competitive they are. 2) Winners from public schools will be relentlessly hounded by the parents and coaches of losers at private schools, with the goal of making them quit the sport.

Summary for non-lawyers: this week is the capstone of a project to undue EVERY important institution, norm, freedom, and right that we have been relying on (and taking for granted) for the last 80 years. We have only barely begun to feel the repercussions; I suspect we will regret it dearly.

And, of course, it comes just as we elevate an insane, despotic president. (I think this was largely coincidental) You'd hope the proponents would have a modicum of self awareness and restraint to maybe slow things down for a minute. But no. Full destruction. Bring on authoritarianism!

I’m mad about today. I’m mad that justices can’t do the bare minimum to uphold the Constitution. I’m mad that the law and our history, which I have dedicated so much of my life to, is an inconvenience than an inheritance to many. I’m mad that the academy, which I love, rewards and enables it.

Burned out from BigLaw? Fed up with government work? We're hiring a writer for LegalEagle! If you're a lawyer who can exhaustively research the crap out of inane legal subjects fast, accurately, and comprehensively, let us know. It's like writing a bet-the-company MSJ, except actually important!

Here's a tip for all press photographers from one content creator to another: when you're photographing these thugs, attach an action cam to your cold shoe (i.e. the top of the camera); you need video of their atrocities too.

ICE is targeting press outside Delaney Hall

1. Generally this isn't going to go well for the pro se(s). 2. Real lawyers will make a ton of money defending these things. 3. Everything they ask of Ai is discoverable and will be turned over to the other side, feeding back into #1 and #2.

Since ChatGPT's release, more people are choosing to represent themselves in federal court. www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

GameStop’s CEO struggles to answer the question of how his company worth $12B can afford to buy eBay for $56B. This is amazing television.

On the one hand, it's probably bad that the Trump admin threatened the Pope. On the other hand, I've now read the wikipedia article on the Avignon Papacy (which absolutely rules).

At the time, certain “legal” “commentators” called it extreme TDS. At least one of them is currently calling for Trump to get 25th’ed. Good times.

Congrats to Attorney General–designate Ed Martin.

I don’t know whom Trump will pick as his next attorney general, but if history is any indication, that person is going to make Pam Bondi look like the fairest, most principled law enforcement official to ever walk the earth

Laypeople, keep asking legal questions of ChatGPT. Don't worry that your chat logs are discoverable!

Gooooood god. I'm not familiar with the underlying defamation allegations, but if you ever get this settlement offer, you take it and run (and then maybe hide in a hole for the rest of your life). Also, lol to anyone who said Ai would make lawyers unnecessary.

I've been quiet about my legal case as I take it very seriously and wish to keep it as separate from my everyday life as possible, but I wanted to give you all an update that provides some context for my commentary. 🧵 (1/10) kusklaw.sharefile.com/share/view/s...

Nilay might be the best podcaster in the game. One of the few who is willing to ask the same question repeatedly when he's getting BS answers. My guess is he's taken a few depositions in his day. Masterful.

Here’s my interview with Shishir Mehotra, the CEO behind Grammarly’s “expert review” feature which attributed writing advice to people - including me lol - without permission. Or, as you will hear us talk about a lot, compensation. www.theverge.com/podcast/8987...

Also, kudos to the sound engineer who left in the audible sighs of displeasure from the interviewee in the middle of questions he could tell he didn't like. You could *hear* how uncomfortable he was. Listen to this interview with headphones.

He died doing what he loved.

When Iran retaliates (or Venezuela or North Korea or, frankly at this point, Canada, Mexico, or the EU) against us by nuking DC, in that half second between the blinding flash and total molecular disintegration, I’m going to be SO smug.

Ending the Iran war is easy: Trump just needs to withdraw, apologize, and admit that he made a mistake because he didn't fully understand the situation. Oh god.
