Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

Thinking of @prisonculture.bsky.social reminding us people are in motion everywhere. This at the same time/same city as a sch board meeting where tons of community members showed up to protect community schools from closure and where I know of tons of folks doing immigrant defense work tonight.

Don’t mute your India news, people! Monumental protests happening right now.

Indrapramit Das@indrapramitdas.bsky.social

It is wild the degree to which being on Bluesky (as opposed to Twitter, which feels like walking into the clamour of an Indian railway station) feels like hitting mute on India right now, with the whole nation at a turning point.

One of the handful of articles telling it like it is instead of misinforming the public. By @saragoud.bsky.social for @thebulletin.org Yes. Its bad science based on numbers out of various behinds, but that's not how most of the rest of the media is discussing it. thebulletin.org/2026/09/how-...

thebulletin.orgHow the bad science of AI doomerism is good for big businessThere is no clear path showing that today’s AI systems will lead to superintelligence, much less a basis for calculating the probability of doom.

My former colleagues, Mark Cane and Stephen Zebiak, were the first to successfully predict El Niño more than a year in advance in the late 1980s. Now we’re really good at it, and know the consequences. It’d be irresponsible for governments not to take action. Read this from my buddy Jeff Shaman.

I would too, but this elides a central problem with Democrats and the media -- unlike the Republican Party, which is *very* happy to carpet bomb the media with a message that then directs their coverage, most prominent Democrats are reluctant to do anything like that.

www.nytimes.com/2026/09/12/u... Don't have time to fully comment on this article, but I would love to see a parallel article about the much more plausible assertion that the Republican party, from the President and the VP on down, has been captured by right-wing extremists.

2. Any discussion about higher ed that misses that women and people of color were largely excluded until the *1970s* misses the fulcrum of these debates. 6/

I wrote this quickly at a bus stop and didn't realize it would go viral, or else I would have worded it better. But the point is that the media is too credulous about AI killing everyone in 10 years (how?) when climate change is killing people now and will only get worse (we know exactly how).

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

The norm is so powerful, it'd be unthinkable to change it. All email is interoperable. Social media could've been this way.
