Is it just the normal people I encounter, or is "ChatGPT" becoming the "Nintendo" of automated systems?

Whatever you think of the disclosure, @tailscale.com has handled it professionally so far. There's a Reddit post from their VP of engineering talking about what they're doing. Zero complaint about the disclosure, the discloser, or how it was handled. Just getting to work on it.

There are a few different philosophies of disclosure and companies should be prepared to handle all of them.

The severity of breakage from dist-upgrade would have sent me back to Windows in the past. Having AI to help sort it out faster saved the day. It was a "simple" fix: reinstall a package and edit a config file. But getting there still took an hour, and it shouldn't have happened.

I see there's discourse about profile links to adult stuff being tagged as adult. Frankly: I want to know if I'm about to click off to porn. It's either a way to tag it manually or auto-tagging. Complaining about this sounds exactly like complaining about getting your porn mod-tagged as porn.

Some people are all "guys, gals, and nonbinary pals" until you try to tell them nonbinary pals aren't always visibly nonbinary, and some of their--let's be honest, bigoted by definition--attitudes toward binary identities risk harming people who read as binary but aren't.

Fails to recognize Patreons for the green button when they're under a custom domain. Other than that,

Anyway, so a bit of trivia I got my name from a game called Kye The game was named for the developer's dog, Kye There is absolutely no relationship here aside from probably sharing an etymology.

Is the anti-PHP stuff going around the sort of stuff any mature language gets, or is it really as bad as people seem to think? I thought all the big issues were solved years ago and it became a decent enough thing to use.

My read is people are using an issue in the PHP _runtime_ to air their frustrations at the language, which is fine but has some legacy cruft like any old language.

Normalize doing the work to have an opinion before having an opinion.

I think it's understandable for people to not understand accounting, but I also think it's reasonable for them to recognize that fact when engaging with media on the topic. "I don't know enough to form a coherent opinion on this" is a complete answer to a Reuters headline.

One myth I would like to see die in the 2020s is the idea that there are blue states and red states. That's a news media invention. It isn't real.

I was never sure what Pillowfort was for when I was reminded it existed and logged in. I could never find anyone active. I guess it was in the same world as Dreamwidth, but never got enough momentum to have the sort of unique and active community sites like that depend on.

Apparently Pillowfort was popular with smutsmiths and their fans due to the site's willingness to defend them. That would explain why it seemed dead to me: no interest in all that, so didn't look for it.

You know times are odd when Playboy has to read someone the articles.

Hey, Pete Hegseth, this equation—testosterone = aggression = combat power—is not clearly backed by scientific study. BJ Ferguson, a genderqueer transmasculine person who has been taking topical testosterone for six years, breaks it down for you. Read here: www.playboy.com/read/politic...

I forgot how quiet the internet can get on weekends when you're not on "social" media all the time.

This was the right call and recent posting was a mistake. There are too many people made unwell by this technology and even the various controls and feeds and filters let too many through.

Even my own posts cause it, if I'm being honest as I scroll through them. Do you know how much reading and writing I've gotten done without inflicting this on myself and others?

So you know how in Sonic 2 the little critters are freed when you blow up the robots What happens in Sky Chase Zone Do they just fall to their deaths

Lanterns is exactly my kind of show, but: 1: it's never going to develop a fandom (see: kyefox.com/revisiting-t...) 2: HBO. Giving money to Rowling is poison to me. Giving attention to media that indirectly supports her mission by supporting the platform is also not good.

kyefox.comRevisiting The Walking DeadCircumstances aligned recently to allow me to catch up on The Walking Dead. I started with spinoffs: Dead City and Daryl Dixon. I had already watched most of Fear The Walking Dead and the first season...

I'm falling out with TV in general due to streaming tendencies. Shows have 10 episodes and 2 years between seasons if they get a second at all, and you know it won't get a third. I got on the internet early, so I grew up with the shared experience of talking about shows and it's mostly missing now.

And you're just as likely to find someone who really, really hates your favorite show and won't shut up about it so you can enjoy it. Can't talk Stargate without someone screaming about the military, as though having complicated views on media is some violation of an invisible contract.

Matt Mullenweg might be rich beyond reason, but I've never stepped on my dick in such spectacular fashion I got sued and alienated everyone in a community I spent decades of my life building, so I guess I have that going for me.

The Noticing feed is great because you get all these interesting posts, then some weirdo posts "paws"

Tim Curry was almost The Joker; he recorded a few episodes. Mark Hamill was the right call for that but imagine the alternate timeline with the "going to space" clip switching to Tim Curry's Joker riding a Christmas tree out of prison. melmagazine.com/en-us/story/...

melmagazine.comAnd the Joker Got Away: An Oral History of ‘Christmas with the Joker’Mark Hamill, Kevin Conroy and producer Paul Dini reflect on the Joker’s first appearance in ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ and how it set the definitive tone for the Batman vs. Joker rivalry

On the one hand, SV-speak has trained me to read acquisitions as an end of good stuff. On the other, if this ATProto experiment really is something different, we need to be willing to consider that old patterns don't hold and expect something better. I like the optimistic track.
