Local elections matter.
This was an important and useful discussion. I really appreciated the nuanced questions and the space to dive a little deeper on these critical issues for our city and our region. 🧡
You know what people (even transit-dependent people) want more than free buses? Faster, more reliable, more frequent buses. You know what doesn't help with that? Cutting funding.
Looks like Rod Dembowski wants to fully restart the debate about whether King County Metro should go fare free. This morning he suggested a potential fare free pilot, citing the benefits of increased ridership against the relatively low farebox recovery rate Metro currently has.
When we speak up, we can make good things happen! ❤️
Thank you @theurbanist.org @seattletru.bsky.social @sngreenways.bsky.social @transpochoices.bsky.social and every volunteer and advocate fighting for better mobility, connection, and safety on our streets. This is a shared win and something to celebrate.

Washington is in an all-out battle against climate chaos—from wildfires, to atmospheric rivers and corporate pollution. As federal climate action falters, it's critical that WA has strong local leaders prepared to fight like hell. Support JanePAC's local candidates by contributing what you can 👇
I spoke to both Senator @vandanaslatter.bsky.social and Insurance Commissioner @pattykuderer-waoic.bsky.social about this issue because I was worried about not just the availability but the insurance coverage. I was glad to hear that our state has our back. ❤️WA
This is actually the second ped project currently delayed due to waiting on the signal equipment.
Meanwhile up the Eastrail on the Cross Kirkland Corridor, completion of a safe crossing at Slater Ave/132nd Ave NE has been delayed to early 2026, awaiting signal equipment. www.kirklandwa.gov/Government/D...
Adding people does not always mean adding cars. There is a qualitative change that comes with more folks and simply linearly extrapolating leads to harmful overestimates.
💪 It was another weekend of team canvassing, this time in the Kingsgate neighborhood! We love meeting neighbors and talking about what's on their minds for Kirkland. Help us keep the momentum through November—sign up here ⤵️ www.kurtforkirkland.com

These things are totally achievable but lofty plans are not enough. We need to elect people who consistently show the will to make good on these promises.
One of my takes is that Seattle already has the correct goals: the Climate Change Response Framework and Vision Zero would be transformational if we were on track to achieve them. But transformational change requires bold leadership that we just don’t have right now.
Build great places and people will find a way to get there. Make it easy and safe to get there with transit (or bikes, or walking, or...) and people will do that.
Late last week I wrote about how the 2 Line is performing well by exceeding 200,000 boardings for two months in a row...and then Sound Transit released data showing that it jumped to 300,000 in July. Turns out people do actually want to ride the train between Bellevue and Redmond.
I'll be stopping by!
🧡 Weekly Meetup TOMORROW! 8/14 🧡 6-8p - Jack Sprat / Overlake Village / Redmond It's a good one! This week, join @theurbanist.org and Eastside Urbanism for an introduction to campaign volunteering, with guests from campaigns endorsed by The Urbanist. www.meetup.com/eastside-urb...
We have stolen the autonomy of children and so many others and surrendered it to car dependency. This is a choice and we can do better.
The number of children injured or killed by cars while walking or riding a bike has fallen steadily since the 1970s, but CDC researcher note that this decline is not because streets are safer, but because fewer kids are out and about in the first place.
We proved in the primary that our message resonates. We can win this! 💪 The road to November is short, but with your help, we’ll cross the finish line strong. Whether you chip in a few $ or join us knocking doors, every bit matters. Sign up and be part of the team! 🗳️💙 www.kurtforkirkland.com
Guess who is an extra in this important video from @vandanaslatter.bsky.social? (OK, it's lots of people...)
