New article out from Astro Society staff in the Astronomical League's Reflector magazine! Our Senior Astronomy Education Specialist, Theresa J. Summer, writes about NASA's International Observe the Moon Night, this year taking place on September 19, in their new June 2026 issue πŸŒ”πŸ”πŸ§ͺ

β€œIt's sort of like going to a concert,” Troche explains. β€œEverybody's there to see the band playβ€”everyone's excited. It's the same vibe.” I was happy to speak with Amy Brecount White at #NationalGeographic about #stargazing this summer! www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/artic...

M57, the #RingNebula, is approximately 2,000 light years away from Earth in the constellation Lyra. It's an 8.8 magnitude planetary nebula, making it challenging to see with your eyes from light polluted skies, but easy work for this scope. Image time: 3 minutes

Located 7,000 light years away in the Serpens constellation is the emission nebula, M16, also known as the #EagleNebula. At the center of this nebula, you may recognize the Pillars of Creation, a structure of cosmic dust hiding young stars formed within. Image time: 20 minutes

The #LagoonNebula is an emission nebula located in the #Sagittarius constellation. Emission nebulae make great targets because they emit their own light. At 5,200 light years, M8 is a favorite for stargazers during the warmer months. Image time: 17 minutes

Located in Sagittarius, Barnard 86 (a dark nebula) and the star cluster NGC 6520 can be viewed with a small telescope. Both objects are part of the Large Sagittarius Star Cloud - the innermost structure of the Milky Way that can be seen naked eye from semi dark skies. Image time: 16 minutes
