@notthebe.ee hi! I was tinkering hella a lot with Raptor Lake W680 server board with pretty powerful BIOS, but without a lot of success unfortunately. I managed to get C10 only without GPU. Here is my full journey, feel free to ask!

forum.level1techs.comASRock Rack W680D4ID-2T/G5/X550 C-states / ASPM problemHi, recenly got this board, but cannot figure out how to go below pkg C2 (pc2). My setup: CPU: i9-14900K RAM: two 48 GB ECC UDIMM sticks from Kingston Motherboard: ASRock Rack W680D4ID-2T/G5/X550 (...

How did we end up in this situation? I don't like Apple products because of their walled-garden nature, but I have to admit that we're at the point where the MacBook is light years ahead in technological terms.

Do you see the light at the end of the tunnel? Because for now I do not. Panther Lake doesn't really impress me. I don't think Windows/Linux laptops will magically last much longer after switching to a new node process. AMDs next mobile chip will probably be incremental. Qualcomm? Too many problems.

There are no Windows or Linux laptops that will last a full day. None. There are no laptops that come even close to the M4 Pro/Max-maybe only those with a basically desktop-class chip inside a laptop-like chassis and abysmally small battery life.

Hell, even those heavy-duty workstations are not matching Apple's single-core performance. Memory bandwidth with SODIMM DDR5 is at least two times smaller. Maybe in some cases a discrete (!) GPU can win the graphics battle, but that's it, lol.

I really want to buy a good Linux laptop like a ThinkPad or Framework, but I just cannot ignore how much further Apple is in terms of performance and efficiency.

@tangled.sh could you clarify please, which user should own repositories? When I create repository it's owned by root:root and I cannot push to it, but if I manually chown -R git:git it starts to work. It could be error at my side, since I am trying to run it under rootless Podman.

@tangled.sh is it possible to remove repo? I am trying to Dockerize my knot, have to debug a lot, since I am getting a ton of errors, but it seems like there is no way to delete created repos. Maybe there is some programmatic way?

I could only imagine it previously, since I usually just installed something like Debian and configured everything manually. Dropping an entire VM would be a disaster.

today i found out that without setting PL4 (which is usually hidden) your server will just randomly shutdown even under light load. so basically you cant use PSU like mine HDPlex 250W. intel just sets crazy default values like 320-450W

tbh i didn't know that achieving deep C-states with desktop/server platforms is SO hard. platform itself, connected devices, kernel, drivers, basically everything contains bugs

at this moment i spent almost a month to just achieve package C10 state. and i did it. but without one NVMe drive and dedicated GPU. and you know what? even this required literally WEEKS of debugging

i passed the stage of unlocking BIOS and tuning a ton of unknown options. now i am in the point where i literally read ACPI spec, leaked PCI-SIG docs and CPU's PCIe configuration space manual

finally have enough parts to launch this board! - Intel Core i9-14900K limited to 125W (90% perf) - 96GB 5600 ECC - two DC2000B nvme boot drives with power loss protection - HDplex GaN 250W PCU not on the photos: four enterprise SATA SSD drives 1.92TB each

after updating to the linux 6.12 suspend works finally, but it seems like my monitor (samsung g8 oled) for some reason downgrades resolution after waking up. on windows nvidia devs probably found some workaround, but on linux i have to reboot the monitor

i cannot believe that linux experience under nvidia gpu is still SO BAD in 2024. okay, i get it, everyone remember the video with linus, but it was 12 YEARS AGO

Well, it's strange. I switched to my old "non-PDS" account, posted this there and now it's somehow on my main account. Probably some web interface account switching bag...

Spotify’s management will kill this company. They announced Hi-Fi literally four years ago. They are now testing Supremium and some add-on paid for at least two years. Also they have finally released AI DJ, but I will probably die until it will reach my market.

Does ALPN help clients to negotiate HTTPS/3 connection? As far as I understand there are two working methods right now: Alt-Svc header and HTTPS DNS record. But what about "old" ALPN which was used back then HTTP/2 was adopting?
