[brag] One of my smartest habits is to paste in my command line actions when I install a new conda enviroment and all big error messages + what fixed them in a big flat text file for me to search for future copypasting

Important discovery that will revolutionise academia! - A Pi = (Pi * R^2) * Pi = (Pi * R)^2 So, modulo a rational constant, A Pi is a squared diameter, but we know that squaring the circle is impossible. From this we can conclude that most faculty do not, in fact, exist.

New proposed definition of chutzpah: rejecting my application and then sending me repeated mails about participating in a 20-minute survey about the experience... 🧪⚛️

Interviewer: can you explain this gap in your CV? Paleontologist: You mean the ghost lineage? Look fossilization is rare and we don’t have strata preserving the relevant time period. We can infer it was very impressive and doing lots of things that would make one hirable though…

Historic view of Jupiter’s volcanic moon Io. The red dot is glowing magma at the Tvashtar eruption site; the blue plume is fine dust particles lofted hundreds of km high and catching sunlight. A rare, detailed look at Io’s extreme activity from New Horizons’ Jupiter flyby. 🔭🧪⚛️ #planetsci

From the plundering of other people's work, to defacing shared community resources like Wikipedia in order to replace them with walled gardens with paid access, to forcing everyone to invest in more cybersecurity, the latest developments in AI have been one endless attack on the Digital Commons.

All of which is to say that these people are, without a doubt, far less responsible than the atomic scientists ever were, even the most reckless and irresponsible of the atomic scientists. The average AI tech CEO appears to make Edward Teller look entirely sober and careful by comparison.

This leads to a credibility gap: to put it crudely, why should anyone trust AI safety analysis when y'all are partying with SPECTER and cashing checks from Blofeld? Why should anyone take analysis of lone wolf/PLA misuse of open-weight models seriously when there's no similar analysis of XAI?

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.
