Learning the hard way that the most important setting to turn on in PhpStorm is “drag-and-drop with ALT pressed only” because it is waaay to easy to accidentally move files/folders otherwise.

Preparing the email notifications and blog posts for perhaps the biggest launch in my 30+ year career. Certainly biggest in the last decade. I may vomit.

If Air Canada has to email me ahead of my flight to tell me the plane does NOT have a functioning seat back entertainment system I’m guessing that means no wifi either. I pretty much have to cancel right?

Going live very soon with a Laravel app that requires a lot of scheduled tasks. So I created a custom health check. Each task logs its success and failures in redis and an endpoint checks that log and returns an appropriate status. Cloudflare checks it and I can sleep at night.

It’s been a few days since I tried switching from VSCode to PhpStorm w/ Laravel Idea. I don’t think I will be switching back. I am having some issues with key mapping for GitHub CoPilot but otherwise my expectations have been exceeded.

I’ve happily used VSCode for many years for Laravel development. But I’ve also used JetBrain’s DataGrip for many years and happy with that. Well it’s a new year so giving PhpStorm a 30 day trial. What are the chances I will be left wondering what took me so long?

had an absolutely brutal moment of self awareness as I realized that when I listen to ambient music called like Aleaeris 7: the Adonis Tapes by Hørst it's fulfilling the same purpose as my grandparents buying records called The Jimmy Cresp Orchestra Presents Tahitian Melodies

Dec 31st 2024, I woke up at 5am and put in 3 hours of coding. Jan 1st 2025, I woke up at 5am and put in 3.5 hours of coding. Know yourself and feed your passion.

Love doing a little bin diving and finding key issues from my childhood. 1st appearance of Snake Eyes in G.I.Joe. Also 2nd appearance of Monica Rambo & Captain Marvel joins the Avengers. Life isn’t all code. There’s also comic books (and family and kids of course)

I'm creating a Starter Pack for Canadian Creatives. So, if you're an artist, author, musician, or other passionate creator, I would love to include you as a mechanism to advance the arts and bring fellow Canadians together. Please let me know if you wish to be included. Kindly retweet for support.

One thing I like about being a developer is that I often can’t tell if I’m being extremely smart or very stupid. #buildinpublic

Spent a good portion of the day working on dark mode for a project launching in Jan. I’m glad I listened to @calebporzio.bsky.social podcast/rant on colours because playing w/ opacity worked pretty well to get a darkened version of my existing palette.

Where are you all putting your toast messages? I can never decide what works best. Top center? Bottom right? Someone just tell me the answer.

Realized (to my surprise) that my 18 year old daughter who loves everything nerdy had never actually seen the matrix. Well there was no option other than to show her. Her mind has now been set free.

Just made my “forgot password” process dumber. Normally I try to make every interaction with a user as seamless as possible but with an ever increasing landscape of bots and phishing attempts now all you’ll get from me is “thanks, if that email is real we will send you a reset link”

I waited too long to set up a GitHub project for my organization. I had lazily resorted to sticking all issues in one repo even tho I’m actively working on 4 related app which share some common packages, 8 repos in total. Now I have one project to rule them all.

After months of focused Livewire work I was back into React today and it reminded me that I really love making context providers. It is such a powerful design pattern for components.

The Flux themes look really nice and well thought out but noticeably absent from the examples are the ghost, subtle and danger variants of the buttons. Was really hoping for to be able to select a theme to define buttons in various states such as danger or warning #livewire #laravel

Example. A “primary” variant is nice for a call to action on a web page. But in an admin form it’s very useful to change the colour of a Submit button if a form is dirty or has validation errors. Dynamically setting a theme would be an elegant way to do this instead of overriding classes.

When deleting blocks of commented out code in classes you haven’t looked at in months, do you feel a ping of dopamine or anxiety? #buildinpublic

I’m ready to theme up some flux buttons in my official Laravel extended VSCode today. It’s not work when you love what you do!

#Laravel #Flux throws a really ugly 500 error if it can’t match your provided variant prop. Should this be a 500 error? I feel like the flux:button could gracefully use a default variant if a match isn’t found. Am I wrong in that feeling?

Waking up at 5am and doing a little code with a fresh cup of coffee is very peaceful and meditative. Right up until you introduce a bug into production. #devops

Just started a fresh #Laravel project for the first time with v11. I’ve upgraded 4 projects to 11 but this is the first time I’m seeing the minimal scaffolding in a fresh project. I love it.

Without doing any research my brain is wondering how hard it would be to migrate a pure React PWA that runs independent of the Laravel API it consumes into a more integrated Inertia2.0 app Primary goal is to have Laravel control state on the server and never use Redux again.

Trying to decide if I want to die today by driving on the highway with really low tire pressure or from turning on the air compressor at 6:30 am and waking up my wife and daughters.

Why would Laravel app #1 that shares the same mail config, dependencies and on the same server as Laravel app #2 throw OpenSSL errors trying to connect to sendgrid when when app #2 is perfectly happy. 🤦

Well the good news is app #2 eventually failed as well. Feels like sendgrid must be having some issues today with port 587 Very odd for stable product code to start failing only when configured with that port

I’m very accustomed to using using #laravel echo to listen on broadcast channels for real time app updates. I’m curious what people’s experience is using Pusher Beams to add native iOS/android/desktop notification to their Laravel apps?

I watch #STNG every single night before bed. It’s probably the biggest middle age nerd behaviour I have. It’s like a lullaby which helps me boldly go to sleep.
