As an open-source maintainer, Kenney's work is a source of inspiration. Like him, I also use public domain licenses.

Was using @kenney.nl's ship mixer today and was reminded how absolutely insane it is that a broke hobbyist like me can just go onto this guy's website and get 100s of free assets, professional quality for completely free. Kenney, you've saved my ass more than once, so I just want to say thanks.

Kenney always making us indies proud. Go buy his asset packs if you can. It is a great investment both for you and indirectly for people who benefit from his free assets.

Don't use GenAI as well for anything. It doesn't belong in development/art/writing. As an open-source maintainer, I like my work to have reproducible steps and my userbase to know the projects are managed by someone who cares for the process. That is to me a scientific/professional/caring approach.

Great use of fame for a good cause!

🔥 (to be released) New usability feature for Nodezator With the new "ziplining" feature, users can shift-click a connection in order to be transported to the next node instantly. This can be used to traverse the graph back and forth. #python #pygame-ce #open-source #node-editing #foss

Since we know we want to visit the next connected node regardless of its location, why spend time scrolling the screen? That's why ziplining exists. Reason it is not released yet is because I'm waiting to release it along with the next batch of additions/changes I've been working on.

❤️ Cute lil nodes (if I may say so myself) ❤️ Nodezator's work in progress: nodes will automatically shrink to save space. They'll also expand to house bigger elements (this means users will be able to change the size of widgets). #Python #pygame-ce #nodeediting

That will no doubt come back to haunt the maintainers by harming the maintainability of the project. Any amount of leniency allows vibed code, which is made with no reproducible steps, to gradually grow in size. As an open-source maintainer myself I recommend and practice a zero-tolerance policy.

I searched Godot’s PRs for AI uses and found 47 merged PRs that were actually AI assisted, out of ~40.000 since Godot 4.x. Maintainers – with years of experience in their specific domains and Godot's codebase – treaded extremely careful in reviewing them. And I think this is perfectly reasonable.

Sim. As bets estão adoecendo ainda mais a saúde financeira do país q já não está lá estas coisas, e aumentando ainda mais a desigualdade.

Paula Villar@artevillar.bsky.social

As a former chemistry student, I realized that from day one: from the notion of rate-limiting step we can infer that all tasks for which AI relies on people to correct it's course the speed with which the task advances depends on the slowest phase, which is the rate at which a person can revise.

"We're shipping so much more code with AI!" "Good, stable code?" "Oh heavens no. No no no. not at all. We couldn't possibly"

Faster garbage is still garbage and even when it works, this turns code into the equivalent of magic rather than a scientific/technical pursuit, not to mention the human and artistic aspects/decisions. Does code that you don't even understand counts as professional output?

It is one of the (many) reasons why I don't use genAI/LLMs. For instance, for an open-source maintainer like me, this means that the increased output in code would be restricted anyway by the speed at which I can understand and sanitize the code.

My honest feelings about the fact I don't use genAI/LLMs. I mean no disrespect to anyone or their personal choices. Thank God I remembered this cartoon. The underlying premise fits so perfectly. Original art by Caio "Furfles" Slitka, retext/edit by me.

For those who need things spelled out for them (because we live in such times): When people say they don't use genAI/LLMs, they are - not - worried about the underlying invisible chain of tools that support their work, over which they know they don't have total control.

To me, like books, games are a small piece of people's souls. As long as they are made with love and without genAI/LLMs. Wish everyone had the chance to make at least one game in their life before they die. A mini-game would suffice, as well, for the smallest experience can still hold a soul piece.

Good night.

Useful thread. I suspect I saw a very blatant case of this on Discord the other day.

Not all bots are gonna blatantly spam/scam/ragebait. There are bots now whose sole purpose is to infiltrate your posts, *exploit good faith*, and *waste your time* with innocuous but ultimately pointless questions. AI is a fucking cancer.

After defeating the boss, the character doesn't teleport away immediately either. Since teleportation is dependent on satellite dishes, Blue walks back just a little ways in order to access the satellite dish that lies just outside the boss area:

This detail seems trivial, but think about it like this: if game characters could teleport in and out of a mission's area whenever and wherever they wanted, why wouldn't they do it to escape threats or to tactically teleport right next to an unsuspecting enemy?
