Giving blood in a community center room that is used for prek couple days a week. Can I tell you the art? Leaves and pumpkins, coconut trees with letters a la Chicka Chicka Boom, the weather bulletin board “Today it is SUNNY,” butterflies with pipe cleaner antennas. We have it all! Also give 🩸.

Had to look up how many zeroes in a trillion because California billionaires will still collectively be worth $2,000,000,000,000 that is TWELVE zeroes, for that 2 Trillion dollars after they’re taxed a one time 5%. I feel a little dizzy.

If I see one more tech bro explaining the human experience and “all of human history” like it’s a word search on the back of a cereal box I’m going to continue to not use genAI.

PSA EVERYONE GETS CANDY. Halloween is the only holiday in the US where we all celebrate basically the same way and people knock on their neighbors doors just to say hey and wander the neighborhood. It is the best. There are no presents there is just “trick or treat” and smiles. All joy. 🖤🎃👻

🎧 audiobook Off the Reservation - Stephen Graham Jones. I am one chapter in and there’s already stuff I want to go back and listen to again. Narration right now is by Shaun Taylor Corbett- it’s excellent. @stephengrahamjones.com books are good to listen to at 1:1 - for the pauses & the space.

#HorrorWritersChat Question Four: “Lay down all thoughts Surrender to the void It is shining…” Conversely, what would the plot be for a horror story from you based on a particular piece of music?

I was just thinking Amadeus is a great horror/music meetup. I think I’m too amazed by people with musical talent to torture them in a horror story. Clearly I need to explore this. Q3 #horrorwriterschat

#HorrorWritersChat Question Three: “No matter how he tried, he could not break free And the worms ate into his brain…” Pitch me a story where you pair up a musician of your choice in a horror tale of your choosing.

My relationship with sound changed after my stroke- used to have whatever the audio version of a photographic memory is. I think if there’s music in my work now it’s about the rhythms and starts and stops in the language. Off hand I can’t think of a song I’ve used. #horrorwriterschat q2

James Ryan@jamesryan.bsky.social

#HorrorWritersChat Question Two: “Big black shape with eyes of fire Telling people their desire…” Does music play a part in your horror writing, and if so, how do you use it in the story?

Hello #horrorwriterschat I’m Kimberly, I write horror that sneaks up on you (when I’m not writing humor) and I live with two teens so I have not been allowed to make a music choice in years. If I’m listening to something of my own choosing it’s usually an audio book.

James Ryan@jamesryan.bsky.social

#HorrorWriteresChat Question One: “All the best freaks are here Please stop staring at me…” This week, we’re asking about the music of the night, the songs on Lestat’s playlist, and all that jazz… Introduce yourself, the horror you write, and your favorite music to listen to.

Friday is my Monday which is always always weird but I just saw that a library hold is in so it’s gonna be a great day tomorrow. Now I just need 1 more indie bookstore to order from my back catalog, and that will make 1 indie bookstore this week that ordered from my back catalog.

Thanks for the chat this week, Mary! It was strangely aspirational. 😀 I won't be able to chat next week, but I have a lot of stuff on the horizon for the Halloween season. So if you're interested in my upcoming releases, check out my Patreon: www.patreon.com/cw/arcdirect... #HorrorWritersChat

First I sit there until you convince me it’s real. Then I thank the coolest kids @gabino.bsky.social & @tvayyyy.bsky.social, as I do in all my horror books. No question connecting with them at the exact right moment opened a door to horror & stories I didn’t know I had. Q4 #horrorwriterschat

Mary Shelley. I have questions. Or I’d share a table with Octavia Butler and just be losing my mind the entire time. Probably best neither scenario could ever happen. Q3 #horrorwriterschat

DAY THREE of the (fictional) Horror Writers Chat Conference. It's time to set out your wares. Your books, your merch...but who is this sitting next to you? Q3: #HorrorWritersChat - Which Horror Writer (living or dead) would you share an author table with? Why?

My ideal horror conference panel would be about the huge diversity of form and function that’s possible in horror- poetry, graphic novels, shorts, novels, and different formats/ means of delivering the story. Q2 #horrorwriterschat

DAY TWO of the (fictional) Horror Writers Chat Conference! You’re heading to a panel about your favourite horror subject. Q2: #HorrorWritersChat - What would your ideal horror conference panel be about? Who would be on that panel?

I’m Kimberly Davis Basso, I write horror that sneaks up on you. My upcoming short story: When the warm winds begin to blow, Beware your fingers and keep count of your toes… Mind your manners and clean your plate— Grinnin’ Jack is here. Too late. Q1 #horrorwriterschat

Glad you could make it! Welcome to the (fictional) Horror Writers Chat Conference 🖤✨ It’s DAY ONE and you’re in an elevator with other guests… Q1: #HorrorWritersChat - Introduce yourself, your horror, and give an "elevator pitch" for your latest horror book/WIP (Work In Progress).

Business plan: 1. Make a product so pointless it makes users stupider while it destroys our only home. ✅ 2. Tell CEOs they can replace their workforce with it (do not mention that unemployed people can’t buy things). ✅ 3. Use the folks

who subscribe for free as proof of concept and overvalue the crap out of this thing! ✅ 3. Ignore environmental hazard warnings. ✅ 4. Ignore pesky creatives who want to be paid for their work.✅ 5. Realize we will not be paid for our work. 😱 6. Beg for help.✅

A Short Play Tech bros: OH! Our bad. Yeah it could kill us all. Us: So you’re saying other than *that* things are going well and it has nothing to do with the model falling off a financial cliff? Just crashing into massive losses? Tech bros: [mumble jumble] Tech bros: we are very concerned about

My dad, 93, says “follow the money.” Propositions up for vote-funded by?politicians-funded by? bailout -due to bad business practices? religion- on whom is the money spent? Follow the money. Good rule of thumb as we get ready to vote for who controls the money, be good to know who controls them.

As we head into Halloween season, I’d like to share the advice I’ve always given my children- “if you’re going to be a serial killer, be the best serial killer you can be.” Find that up and more excellent parenting in my second book, Birth and Other Surprises.

Hi, I’m Kimberly Davis Basso. I write humor and horror. I love the opening of Dusty Springfield’s “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” big layers of instruments & voices, then it stops and it’s just her vocals. Over the top. Would you like to introduce yourself with a small song moment you like?

Sonora Taylor@sonorataylor.bsky.social

Hi, I’m Sonora Taylor. I write horror fiction. I love the way Crosby, Stills, and Nash begin “Helplessly Hoping” in hauntingly perfect harmony. Would you like to introduce yourself with a small song moment you like?

1) check your voter registration - voters are being purged 2) stay aware of the mail in ballot nonsense and know where your legit drop boxes are and where to vote in person 3) California has ballot tracking- if your state does as well, do it.

I’m just a girl standing in front of a menu thinking, are potatoes safe? Maybe those restaurants that sell vaporized mist of chicken piccata have the right idea? Is it soylent green yet time yet? Went out to lunch today for the first time in a while if you need some context clues.

I don’t talk much about my stroke so here’s a reminder of the symptoms and the fact that I was in perfect health when it happened (and not a single risk factor). If you have a brain it can break - the good news there have been new treatments even since mine 12 years ago- so get help! Time is brain!
