With quite a bit of delay, I'd still like to announce that I’ve been elected Program Director at the Collège International de Philosophie (CiPh) in Paris for the next six years: ciph.org

Founded in 1983 by Derrida, Châtelet and others, the Collège was created to “privilege infrequent approaches” and “to treat more of intersections than of academic disciplines” (Derrida) and has welcomed thinkers such as Giorgio Agamben or Judith Butler.

Our project "INFRADEM – Reconfiguring Digital Infrastructure as a Site of Democratic Transformation" received a generous 5-year funding from the VolkswagenStiftung 🎊.

Our project "INFRADEM – Reconfiguring Digital Infrastructure as a Site of Democratic Transformation" received a generous 5-year funding from the VolkswagenStiftung 🎊.

Together with a fabulous consortium of partners from different disciplines, we will investigate how digital infrastructures that are increasingly steered by a small number of private actors can be reconfigured as sites of democratic transformation.

Drawing on continental cultural and legal theory, I argue that authorship is not an obsolete remnant of an outdated social model, but the central element of democratic institutional coherence.

In this paper, I claim that the biggest threat of the uncritical and widespread use of LLMs lies in the disruption of the textual relationship between citizens and institutions on which democratic rule-of-law societies depend.

To this end, I critically engage with the idea that LLMs bring about a new concept of human-machine co-authorship that transcends the burden of logocentrism (Coeckelbergh and Gunkel).

...and this is not all, I've got even more good funding news 🎉 ! Our project "Protocol Studies: Making Art, Rethinking Law, Crafting Social Relations" received funding from the VolkswagenStiftung (440.000 EUR) 🎊

I'm very much looking forward to working with Johannes Bennke and Ella Klik on how artistic practices explore Web3 protocols, revealing their aesthetic, legal, and historical dimensions. Our aim is to enrich media theory, and to reimagine new forms of democratic governance.

...and I've got some good news to share: 🎉 The Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) Luxembourg decided to fund our 3-year AUDACITY project "OAASIS - Ownership, Authorship and Accountability Systems in virtual Spaces" with 460.000 EUR 🎉!

Together with my Co-PI Réka Markovich (Computer Science Department) & 3 Postdocs (cultural theory, legal analysis,&computational legal theory) we will investigate how generative AI & blockchains are fundamentally transforming the legal & cultural concepts of ownership, authorship, & accountability.

A big thank you to Leonardo Romano, Liuwen Yu, Elena Turmel for their important contributions! I am very much looking forward to continuing the excellent work and to staying part of the IAS-Community!

Chris Durt, Ramak Molavi Vasse'i, Margo Bernelin, Olivier Courson, Laurent Thévenot! I'm already looking forward to continuing these important conversations next year at the Center for Critical Computational Studies in Frankfurt!

I would like to announce our upcoming conference “Algorithmic (Dis-)Orders: Law and Culture in Transition”, taking place on 22–23 September 2025 at EHESS, Paris, organized by Jean Lassègue and myself.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming leading scholars in law, sociology, philosophy to explore how emerging technologies—AI, blockchain and data-driven systems—are reshaping core legal concepts such as justice, accountability and legitimacy.

The focus lies on how these technologies challenge traditional forms of self-representation and raise new questions about autonomy and control - particularly regarding the role of the body in virtual environments.

Thanks a lot to Francesca Musiani, Mirjam Schaub, Balazs Bodo, Giovanni Sileno, Gilbert Fridgen, Joris Hulstijn for joining our workshop on virtual ownership - for the thoughtful and critical discussions, and your contributions to this engaging interdisciplinary exchange!

And thank you again to Claus Vögele, Sylvie Fromentin and the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) Luxembourg for your support ! I'm very much looking forward to continuing our research on VIRTOWN with Réka Markovich, Liuwen Yu, Alessandro Tugnetti, Leonardo Romano` (BRIDGES).
